How many years do your appliances last versus the industry average?

Most appliances require regular maintenance to ensure they last their full life expectancy but there are some estimated averages on how long you can expect each type of appliance to last. Furnaces are expected to last between 15 to 20-years while air conditioning units on 10 to 15-years. Some key kitchen appliance are as follows; Refrigerators (14), Freezers (10-20), Dishwashers (9), Garbage disposals (12), Microwaves (9). Washers and dryers may vary based on usage but with regular home usage you can expect approximately 13-years.

True Story: My air conditioner broke down on a really hot day. I immediately started the search to find someone to fix it. Finding Heating and Cooling companies in an emergency is challenging!

First question, what is the make and model of the A/C unit? Unfortunately, I didn't have it easily accessible as it was installed by the prior owner. In the future, this appliance has now been added in my HOME2aT. Also, I was able to document the required part which rolls up to the total cost of the ownership for the appliance. Whether it's a DIY project or hiring a Service Pro, knowing your home history is incredibly valuable.

HOME2aT is a new app that enables homeowners to manage the largest purchase of their lifetime. Knowing the history of a home is unmanageable. While information is known at a point-in-time, it is a lost treasure over time. Many use a filing cabinet to retain home information. It’s near impossible to find when needed and sharing the information is not easy. Receipts from Service Pros are rarely retained. Maintenance or improvement projects are difficult to start and manage. Knowing who to trust to provide service at a fair price is difficult. Data stored in multiple spreadsheets or note taking apps. Manuals and warranties may be online but not easily located. Most Service Pros don’t have applications to manage their business.

Service Pros can connect with new customers and manage existing in this collaborative platform. Service Pros can build a business profile and define the communities they serve. Homeowners will link to their projects directly to their profile and Service Pros will have a customer dashboard of work they've done.
