☀️ HOW SUMMER COULD KILL YOUR INDOOR HOUSE PLANTS ☀️
(pictures of admin’s plants and how we struggle to treat them 😭)
It’s starting to feel REALLY hot in Singapore lately 🔥🥵
Here are the most common ways summer damages houseplants — and how to prevent it:
🔥 1. SUNBURN FROM HARSH DIRECT SUNLIGHT
👉🏻 Leaves can develop crispy brown patches, faded colors, or even “melt” under intense afternoon sun.
✅ Prevention:
• Move sensitive plants away from west-facing windows
• Use sheer curtains to soften direct light
• Gradually acclimate plants to brighter conditions
💧 2. DEHYDRATION HAPPENS FASTER THAN YOU THINK
👉🏻 Higher temperatures = faster evaporation.
Some plants dry out twice as fast during heat waves.
✅ Prevention:
• Check soil moisture more frequently
• Water deeply instead of giving small daily sips
• Increase humidity with trays, humidifiers, or grouped plants
🌡️ 3. HEAT STRESS SLOWS GROWTH
Even tropical plants struggle when indoor conditions become too hot and dry.
Signs include:
• Curling leaves
• Drooping despite moist soil
• Yellowing foliage
• Stunted growth
✅ Prevention:
• Keep airflow moving with fans
• Avoid placing plants near hot windows or AC vents
• Try to maintain stable temperatures
🪴 4. OVERWATERING CAN BE JUST AS DANGEROUS
Many people panic-water stressed plants, which can quickly lead to root rot.
✅ Prevention:
• Always check the soil before watering
• Make sure pots have proper drainage
• Use airy soil mixes during summer
🐛 5. SUMMER = PEST SEASON
Spider mites, thrips, and mealybugs thrive in warm, dry conditions.
✅ Prevention:
• Inspect leaves weekly
• Increase humidity
• Isolate infected plants early
Your indoor jungle CAN survive summer beautifully with the right care 🌿
A little prevention now can save your favorite plants later.
