Soaring Sun Gardens I'm not a professional gardener but it is a passion. Join me as I share Nature's artistry My name is Pam and I live in Illinois, surrounded by corn fields.

I have always enjoyed playing in the dirt and now it's become a passion. I learn as I go. Some things work, some things do not. On this page, I will be holding weekly "Flower Tours", during which I will share up close photos of various floral beauties from my gardens. We get cold and snowy here in Illinois and while flowers are not viable outdoors during the winter here, Nature's beauty is still all around so plan to see photos from all seasons. Flower tour time!! This week's tour is dedicated to all the dads out there, whether for human or furry kids, biological or not, you are very much appreciated, every day. Also dedicating this tour to someone that just lost her dad and I know she could use some peace right now. Hugs to you Chris.

It's been another challenging weather week and some how the gardens came through pretty well. Whew!!

Rose ICU update: things are progressing in unexpected ways in the 2 ICUs. Rose #1 is growing like crazy. If I can keep the critters away, I am convinced he will survive and thrive. Rose #2 is still a question, But check out the pics to see the very unexpected development on #2. I think i am seeing some new growth, but he is definitely still struggling. I did fertilize both yesterday so we will see if that helps.

Flower tour time!! Thankfully the gardens came through this week's spicy weather without much damage. Shocking considering the winds that accompanied several of the storms. There are several new stars joining the show, including a rose i thought i lost, clematis, day lilies, dutch iris, and astible. I hope you can take a moment to grab your favorite frosty beverage, Kick your feet up and enjoy nature's artistry.

Rose ICU updates: so rose #1 is doing great and hope is high he will survive. Rose #2 is still a big question mark but still hopeful. We've had a lot of rain the past few days and now lots of heat so those conditions will be good for the ICUs

Rose #2 ICU: for the second rose, I'm not very optimistic it will survive. This is a knockout rose and they are typically pretty tough. He has struggled the last couple years in my folks yard while other roses around him thrived. He had a couple little leaves but was definitely not in good shape. I bought my mom A new, replacement rose. Something to know about me is if a plant has a sign of life, I will do everything I can to save it. I'm not always successful but I try. When I saw this little rose and his 2 little leaves, I knew I would be taking him home with me. Digging him up, whew, hell of a root system, so he was seriously manhandled during the process. That doesn't help since he was already ailing. I got him home and didn't even have a place to put him. I ended up just finding a sunny place and Digging a hole. He's been planted about 3 weeks and I'm still not seeing new growth. There are a couple green canes so there is still life. I'm not giving up!! Stay tuned for more riveting updates lol 😆

Rose ICU #1: I have 2 different roses that I'm fighting hard to save. This one, i thought had died over the winter. About a month ago I cut all the dead canes off but left the stump for another day. A couple weeks later I went to dig it up and then I realized there was new growth!!. So he is in an ICU. I had to build a protective barrier as some furry little ass ate all the new sprouts. I kept watering and more sprouts have appeared. We shall see. I am optimistic that he can be saved if he can be protected from the varments. Stay tuned!!

Flower tour time!! Cannot believe we're already at the end of May. The rain faucet has shut off and the blast furnace is on Full force. I'm having to water every other day to keep these from burning up. Some roses and phlox have joined the cast and more are so close to blooming.
