Trying to slowly introduce your picky eater to some healthy foods? For snacks, lay out all the healthier snack foods you have with 2-3 sweet items in there. Tell them they can make their own customized bowl. But they can only pick 1 sweet snack on top. For example, I lay out pretzels, corn puffs, unsalted mixed nuts, crackers, and then for sweets, yogurt cover raisins, chocolate covered almonds, and gummy worms. Here's what they picked tonight and were very happy about it.
Ana 8 years old: crackers, pretzels, unsalted mixed nuts, and chocolate covered almonds.
AJ 5 years old: pretzels, corn puffs, unsalted mixed nuts and crackers. He did not want anything sweet.
How did this end? : well AJ seen the dark chocolate covered almonds Ana was eating amd said he wanted to try one. So I gave him one. He loved it and asked for a few more. Then out of his own curiosity, asked if it's okay for his body. I explained to him the benefits of almonds and dark chocolate for his body. He seemed very interested. Then asked, "what are carrots good for?" I said "well they help with many things. They help with you eyes, blood and heart."
Then he asked if we had any and if he could have some. I said yes we have plain raw carrots to snack on. And he was just like " Okay can I have some with ranch?" So yeah that's what did and he ate them no problem.
