A redesign project from last summer, this large border was full of evergreen shrubs that had outgrown the space, obscured the lovely stained glass windows and offered little in the way of colour or seasonal interest. The client wanted planting that was beautiful but needed very little maintenance, due to the awkward access to the site for pruning, w**ding and watering. I selected crocus, daffodils and tulips start the display off in early spring, followed by long-flowering plants including asters, euphorbias, geraniums and gaura, and the lovely variegated Photinia x fraseri 'Louise' keep things bright and colourful all the way through to late autumn!
