This elephantipes yucca, aka yucca cane was planted a few years ago in this Ohio zone 6 garden and gets protected with the bananas with mulch and a tarp. It pushes to come back and even started showing signs of trunking after this years growth. What do you think?? are they root hardy??!!

Preparing a new box for winter protection for this windmill palm here in Ohio zone 6a. Last box was 8 feet, the new box will be 12 feet tall.

This Ohio Garden is starting to come alive with some Pink China Elephant Ears around their Musa Basjoo bananas. Temps are cool, but things are still growing.

This Trachycarpus Fortunei in an Ohio garden is showing its first signs of flowering. This palm is roughly 5 years old and about 7 feet tall.

We currently have some musa basjoo waking up from their winter nap. Temps are still showing 50’s and 60’s for the moment, but expecting them to rise here very soon. Ohio zone 6a

Finally boxing in the Trachycarpus Fortunei 🌴 here in Ohio zone 6a. Temps this coming week plunge to the 40’s with multiple days dropping below the freezing 🥶 point. We will run the heater on the thermocube inside tomorrow night and update with more photos on how that looks.

Ohio was hit with some patchy frost this morning, but the musa basjoo was untouched.

A few end of season photos of the garden here in Ohio. Temps are dropping below freezing here early next week so we will be posting our protection methods on what we leave out for the winter this weekend.
