I should be promoting our soon-coming seeding sale, or doing garden prep, or potting-up young plants (or any of the many many things on our chore list) but today we're soaking up the spring. Foraging for cleavers along the Mt. Hope River💚 Thank you for the paddleboard (that I sit on cause my balance is garbage😅)
P.S. Seedling sale late May/early June 🌱🌞😁

My favorite new (to us) crops of 2025:

1) Higyoku Red Stem Celosia (Celosia argentea): This stunning annual is beautiful in teas and cut arrangements, but my favorite use of this plant is as a living hummingbird feeder. Sadly, I wasn't fast enough with my camera to catch any pics of them, but trust me when I tell you the hummingbirds love this stuff! (And it's much healthier for them than that red sugar syrup)

2) Rosella cherry tomatoes: I'm honestly shocked we got a photo, we ate them so fast. Prolific fruit and we had no problems with pests or disease.

3) Butterfly Pea Flower (Clitoria ternatea): Technically this was new for us in 2024, but this year's yield was much more substantial than in our first year. I love this tea. Photo #5 shows teas (left to right): pure butterfly pea, with passionflower, with honey, and with lemon juice.

4) Lisianthus (Eustoma grandiflorum)! Aka thornless rose. We grew 'Echo Champagne', 'Echo Pink' and 'Echo Blue' and I adore them all. Worth the long seed-to-maturity time!

Wishing a merry Christmas & a blessed new year to all❤️✨️

Last Spring I was feeling overwhelmed (as usual) with growing thousands of nursery plants from seed, running a business, and the demands of my "day job" (I'm also a nurse). I found that the only logical thing to do was to add into the mix something totally new to me. Something that involves caring for more living things, something I knew very little about, something I found fascinating...beekeeping!!
I'm still a novice, but pleased with the fact that my girls are still alive & working hard! They've made a good amount of honey, although we aren't extracting this year in the hopes that will help them survive the winter. Big thanks to all who have lent their advice, support & supplies. My ears are always open to more bee knowledge & insight!🐝

(My skills as a bee photographer are slowly improving)

New flower & herb bed we "threw together" this year, after the power company unexpectedly removed a large tree from the edge of the property this past winter. What used to be a shady patch of poison ivy & other undesirable weeds is now a sunny pollinator hot spot (albeit still with plenty of weeds). In addition to the flowers, we have Thai basil, holy basil, rosemary, eucalyptus, sage, fennel, st. john's wort, as well as some ashwagandha & hot peppers in the back. Still sorting out ideas for using this space next season🌸
