Prototype model for my Emperor's Children Heresy-era force.

I think I'm going to make the edge highlights more nuanced, but the effect will be subtle enough that I won't need to repaint this guy.

Work in Progress shot of my Skitarii Vanguard test model. Once this guy looks good, I'll be painting all my other Vanguard/Ranger models the same way.

Still trying to figure out how I want to do the purity seals. The red I usually do would look odd I think, but I'll make the decision when I am relatively less exhausted.

Some preliminary shots of my Sicarian Infiltrators test model. Better ones will follow when the squad is finished.

I chose the black and yellow scheme to evoke thoughts of both heavy machinery (like hazard stripes) and insect hives - both of which fit the Skitarii very well.

One of my current projects - an Ironstrider Ballistarius. I built the model separate from the base so that he would be standing on the dirt instead of in it.

The Martian Ironearth technical paint is pretty neat, but you need to be *really* careful to prepare the surface you apply it to or the chunks will flake and drop off as soon as it dries and cracks. At minimum, the base needs a solid primer coat, but in the future I'm considering using a rough file on the base before primering just to make sure

I got a question tonight about my Imperial Fist yellow. My basic recipe (for squad level paint jobs) is thus:

- Black Primer
- Iyanden Darksun basecoat (spraygunned on if possible)
- Gryphon Sepia wash (twice)
- Iyanden Darksun highlight (everything but the deep recesses)
- 1:2 Iyanden Darksun:Bleached Bone edge highlight

Iyanden Darksun is really a good "dirty" yellow for the Imperial Fists, so that is the main color you see. That's why I highlight with the base color, and then try to make the edge highlights wash out the yellow with Bleached Bone so it won't change the yellow shade too much.

A final note: water down the Darksun and use a couple of thinner coats to apply both the basecoat and the highlight. This applies to both the spraygun basecoat and also to any application you do with a brush.

I've had these guys sitting around for a long while, so decided to finish them up and get the kinks out of my painting.

True fact: painting a good yellow is hard.

Truer fact: photographing said yellow is twenty times harder.

Hello all. I appreciate you guys being patient with me while I deal with my health problems. It's frustrating to have the motivation but not the physical ability to work for more than a few minutes at a time. Praise the Lord, however, I am starting to paint again! Yay! Pictures will follow soon.
