FYI:
We do not install shingle roof systems in freezing temperatures because shingles become brittle and crack easily when bent or nailed, the sealant strips won't activate for proper bonding, and it's dangerous and inefficient for workers on icy, cold roofs, leading to potential leaks, blow-offs, and warranty issues. Manufacturers generally recommend temperatures above 40°F (4°C) for installation to ensure flexibility and sealant function, with ideal conditions being warmer.
* Brittleness & Cracking: Cold makes asphalt shingles lose elasticity, increasing the risk of cracking during handling, cutting, or nailing, which compromises the roof's integrity.
* Ineffective Sealant: The heat-activated adhesive strips on shingles need warmth (ideally 70-80°F, but above 40°F at least) to bond properly; cold prevents activation, leaving shingles vulnerable to wind uplift.
* Poor Laying: Shingles might not lay flat, looking rippled or rough until warm weather allows them to seal down. * *Leaks & Wind Damage: Unsealed shingles or cracked shingles create entry points for water and are more prone to blowing off in high winds, potentially voiding your roof's warranty.
However, we are here for you for estimates, storm damage and leaking roof needs. We are placing tarps on damaged and leaking roofs to prevent interior damage until it is warm enough to do a proper install!
