Completed just in time for summer, a returning client requested our services to transform the garden of their new home. With a raised vantage point from the kitchen overlooking the whole garden it was important to create a design that was visually appealing from above too.
The narrow aspect of the garden was given the illusion of widening by offsetting the layout on a diagonal, with the central seating area as the main feature. A unique and structurally challenging counterbalanced pergola was constructed over an L shaped bench which incorporated a 'waterfall' detail at one end.
To create the sense of a room-like space we continued the pergola feature across as a frame structure, linking the raised sleeper planters.
Wide sandstone steps lead down from the patio to a lower lawn and rubber bark chip play area, complete with its own cantilevered bench for the children.
