I haven’t posted in a while, but I have been busy. Here are some pics of what I’ve done. The one thing I like best about being a custom woodworker is the wide range of projects I’ve been asked to work on: countertops, cd cabinets, rustic benches, and wooden board games just to name a few.
For more information on the wooden board games, go to www.figurethatgame.com. If you decide to buy, use code tomsmith for 15% off.

This farmhouse table was the easiest build in a long time. The customer had a counter top that I cut down, had purchased the legs and all I did was make the rails and supplied the hardware for the removable legs. The finishing was done by Jay Persing in Red Lion. I could do this kind of job all day and not break a sweat. THANK YOU “repeat customer” !!!!!

This project was for a repeat customer (multiple times). It was a makeover for the guest room. The design was inspired by a Pinterest post of a reading nook / daybed. The final product was a double bed over a three drawer bed base, with cabinets and open shelves as the head and footboards. I built in much storage in the base of the end cabinets and the backside of the bed base by using piano hinges on the flip up lids. The whole structure is 10’ end to end, 9’ tall to the ceiling and ~60” deep. The clients picked the paint color to match the walls. There will be a bold wallpaper around the window to complete the design.

Here’s a project with a history. The client wanted to re-do an office with storage, shelves and a new desktop. I had come to have some cypress boards taken out of a holding tank at a local paper mill. I’d been told they had been in use for~40 years. The client’s wife’s father had worked at that paper mill for a period of time during their use. (Small world)
I had just enough to make the required number of shelves ( there was only scraps left over ). The cabinet top and desk top was made from reclaimed chestnut barn beams sourced from a local company that takes down old barns.
Kudos to Keith Potts Restorations for the installation of the shelves.

The wall project is completed. The floating shelves will add more display space for pictures, plants and collectibles. I carried through on the two colors by making mahogany dowels on the router table using a 1/2 inch quarter round bit. And these shelves are of the same walnut as the rest of the project.
It’s been a labor of love for my daughter and her family. Now, onto my other customers…….

I have the second stage of the “wall” project finished. There are shelves on the left side of the tv. Stage three will be shelves on the right side but they won’t be the same as the ones on the left. Stay tuned.

This is the partially finished project from the last sketch. There are three different cabinets. The unit on the left houses games and yoga equipment and has a drawer for part of their vinyl collection. The center section ( with the legs ) holds the electronics and has another drawer for more vinyl and miscellaneous storage. This unit is on legs to allow for the air flow of the heating and cooling of the room. The right hand unit is obviously for shoes. It’s located near the front door of the house.
Future parts of the project include open shelving on both sides of the tv. This has been and continues to be a labor of love for me. It was designed by and is for my daughter’s family. Love them all.

Here’s my next project. I’m making it out of walnut!!

I made my first live edge coffee table. It’s 24” x 39” x 18” high. The top is red oak and features a bow tie to stabilize a crack and a few knots for visual interest. The finish is 5 coats of Minwax satin polycrylic. The legs e made from a variety of oaks, painted black and protected by several coats of polycrylic. It’s available for sale. DM me for price if interested in purchasing.

I took this full size antique family heirloom to a queen sized bed. A former customer wanted to make it bigger. I carefully took the legs off ( with a hammer and block of wood and holding my breath ) and inserted some pieces of highly figured white oak using the same style of joinery ( mortise and tenon and glue), stained it (the oak) to compliment existing wood color and sealed it with several coats of polyurethane. I didn’t touch the rest of the frame so as to retain the provenance of the piece. I also extended the rails using “dog-bone “ connectors and glue.

This is called a partners desk. Its dimensions are 40” x 60” desk top at 35” height, and bottom storage for a printer and supplies with a 18”depth. Top book case goes to the ceiling at 90” high.
This customer is a repeat commission ( 3 timer). Love when they keep coming back.
