A customer asked us an interesting question recently:
"How many plants do I need to grow enough food for a year?"
The answer depends on how much you eat and how you plan to preserve your harvest, but we put together this chart with some rough guidelines for a few common garden vegetables.
These numbers come from the excellent book "Homegrown Pantry" by Barbara Pleasant and assume you're growing food for year-round use through freezing, canning, root cellaring, or other preservation methods.
If you're planning to grow more of your own food this year, hopefully this chart helps with the planning ๐ฟ
