EXTERIOR MAKEOVER | Part 1

It took us a while to finally decide what to do with the exterior of our house. The brick has always felt dingy and busy, and we really want to brighten up the home to highlight its stunning A-frame design.

We loved the viking random cladding in our kitchen from so much that we’re continuing it on the exterior, starting with the scullery and braai wall. The cladding obviously doesn’t match the brick, so we’ll be covering the brick with white nutec boards to add to the cottage aesthetic.

Finishing this part of the exterior will give us a glimpse into the overall vision we have for this house, so we’re obviously very excited!

Stay tuned for part 2.

SCULLERY PROJECT | Cabinet Feet & Curtain

I’m so close to finishing this wall in the scullery and this project reminded me just how much I love breathing new life into homes.

Having the box built around the fridge is a GAME CHANGER. The fridge felt like it was floating; like it was an afterthought, but now it looks intentional and planned for.

I had this wild idea to add small versions of the shelf corbels/brackets to the bottom of the cabinets and I’m so delighted it worked! It adds charm and made the cabinets look a bit more like furniture pieces rather than standard built-ins.

Finally, my curtain situation is NOT going well. I wanted to do a DIY roman blind but things have just not lined up yet, so we’re sticking to a curtain with tie ups for now…at least it’s protecting the pantry!

Next up is the reveal 🤩

SCULLERY PROJECT | Getting help

Nothing much happened here; other than getting my measurements wrong for the board, realizing what a bad priming job we did 2 years ago, and calling for help to install the wood because my baby is teething and I can’t cut wood with one hand.

See you in the next episode 🤭

The scullery has come a long way since day one and I’m far from done!

The next project in my scullery is to complete the window wall, because it feels bare right now. My plan is to frame out the window and box in the fridge, I’m also installing shiplap for character and texture, and then I’m doing a DIY peg rail with a wide ledge, and painting everything in the same green as the cabinets - Antique Avocado by Duram.

I’m getting my board for the fridge box, window frame & peg rail from Timbercity and they’re cutting all the parts for me to size, which is a huge bonus!

Before we take the next step, let’s see how far the scullery has come since day one - swipe with me:

1. This is the plan for the next phase
2. What it looked like the day we moved in (there was a massive bird cage in there as well)
3. We built proper walls to make this room an official part of the kitchen
4. The builders were done with the room, now we get to fill it
5. I did my very first tiling DIY and for some reason decided to start with a herringbone tiling project, which had loads of challenges but thankfully it worked in the end!
6. Here’s where we are now. It’s beautiful but not quite complete.

I’m stopping at Timbercity to order board for my upcoming scullery project. I’ve been coming here so much more since we started renovating our home as they cut the board to any size I need, then I just make the detailed cuts at home. Timbercity has helped me with cuttings for my headboard, a bench seat for my son’s room, and many MDF strips to convert my mom-in-love’s kitchen cabinets to shaker-style.

My scullery has been on the back burner since we renovated, because it’s hidden and other projects took priority. I’ve been staring at the blank unfinished wall behind the sink for months, imagining what I could do to make it feel more complete.

The plan is to frame out the window, box in the fridge and add halfwall shiplap and pegrails, painted the same colour as the cabinets. My first stop is Timbercity to order board and have them cut everything for me.

In all honesty…

I still haven’t tried naps in his crib because I love having him with me. But at least when the time comes, we’ll be all set and ready to go with the Owlet Cam 2 in place.

My favorite feature of the cam is that it monitors room temperature, because the top floor of our house gets very hot in summer. Knowing the room temp will keep me aware of how I need to adjust the aircon to keep the room comfortable for him.

We’re so grateful that we get to have technology like this nowadays to help give us peace of mind. 🤍

My dear Jamie, we waited for 5 years and never gave up hope that at the right time the Lord will make it happen. You are worth it and you’re dearly loved!

I will share my birth story in due time; I have to! God did a wonderful work and left us in awe; reminding us again why He is worthy to be trusted!

PS. The nursery is all done and I’m sure I’ll find time soon to do a reveal video for the gram 😊😊
