FGG Architects was established in Durban in 1953 and with a vast portfolio of work the firm has made a substantial contribution to South African architecture over the past 60 years. The practice has a broad scope of expertise, both in architectural style and in variety of architectural fields. Projects range from the classic Cape Dutch gables of Hilton College in the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands to the

sleek modern lines of the Hilton Hotel in the Durban CBD. Committed to excellence and keeping abreast with the latest technology and practices, the company aims to create stimulating and enduring designs that realise the needs of both client and environment. With a proud history and a dynamic team of professionals, FGG Architects is excited to take on new challenges and to continue shaping the skyline long into the future. Successful projects have been completed across South Africa and abroad, from modern houses and rustic bush lodges to state of the art hospitals, schools, office buildings, residential developments and resorts. FGG is a member of the South African Institute of Architects, the Green Building Council of South Africa. FGG Architects (Durban) in association with Nero-Holt (Brisbane) are honoured and proud to be awarded first place at the International Union of Architects & UN-Habitat Awards ceremony held recently in Cairo, in 'Category 1 - Good Health & Well-Being', for the Angels' Care Centre located at Howick, KZ-N.
We acknowledge the contributions of the Client, the donors, consultants, photographers, videographers, and the architectural staff who all contributed to the success of this project, and the resultant acknowledgement through the award.

These tropical villas are designed to blend indoor and outdoor lifestyles. The large windows maximise the natural light but the climate is controlled by weather screens and large overhangs. The villas, since located in a tropical environment, are designed around the swimming pool and outdoor entertainment spaces.

The Midlands Medical Centre (MMC) is now a fully fledged 275 bed private hospital which included a dedicated cardiac unit and support facilities. Initially a 58 bed facility, the hospital has grown to its current capacity over the past 20 years. MMC’s evolution comprised a total of 6 phases, and despite being on a restricted site in a mixed residential area, all medical and clinical services were maintained throughout construction. Additionally, the expansion project included a 400 car parking garage.
