📌How Water Systems Recover After Maintenance

Unlike electricity, water supply does not return instantly once maintenance is completed.

Water moves through a complex network of pipelines, reservoirs, towers and pumping stations. After planned maintenance, these systems need time to recover as reservoirs are refilled, pressure is restored, trapped air is released from pipelines, and supply is balanced across the network. Areas and suburbs supplied from Direct Feeds off the bulk network are generally the first affected when there is a water outage; however, they are normally the first to receive water once the bulk supply starts to recover.

As a result, some areas may receive water sooner than others, depending on factors such as reservoir levels, demand, elevation and overall system conditions.

Johannesburg Water teams continue to work closely with Rand Water and, in association, monitor system recovery and work to restore supply as quickly and safely as possible.
