Step through the gates of this historical 1811 property and into the magic of an enchanted garden. This diverse and informal garden nestled at the foot of the Houw Hoek Mountain range offers snippets of story boards, streams and water ponds, old heirloom roses heady in scent, shaded lawns to stretch out on under old majestic trees, olive groves, fruit trees, indigenous beds, abundant birdlife and in between all of nature’s beauty – contemporary sculptures quietly take residence here.
In celebration of Elgin Open Gardens, each year Wildekrans Country House offers the opportunity to chosen artists to curate a show. This year will see the old walls of the barn showcasing, the works of plein air painter Joanna Lee Miller and artist Caryn McArthy in their exhibition titled: WHERE THE WILD THINGS GROW – inspired by the surrounds of the Elgin Valley.
'Caryn and I represent two views of the Wildekrans Country House gardens – Caryn is drawn to the abundant, wild gardens and bringing the outside in, and I am drawn to the vistas and expanses. Together we depict Where Wild Things Grow and the excitement and joy from being in and embracing a wild, natural space.’ Joanna Lee Miller
