At first we did everything that involved home maintenance, renovations and handyman work, until we found our niche. Now we focus on a few aspects in the industry which we can offer to commercial and residential customers. Read more about our services here. When the JD returned from Saudi Arabia in 2016, he focused on installing rainwater and grey water recycling systems, but because he has such ex
tensive experience in the construction, building and roofing industry, majority of his customers asked him to do home renovations, building maintenance and handyman work. That is when we changed from Off Grid Systems and Construction over to JD Jordaan t/a Handy Family. By February 2022 Handy Family had to register for VAT, which makes us a reputable business however, it changed our customer market focus completely from mainly Residential Home Owners to include VAT registered companies such as Wine Farms, Office Buildings, Real Estate and other commercial customers. Handy Family is a small business, so all our customers deal directly with the owner. He personally does all the quotes, supervising and often jumps in with our contractors and gets his hands dirty. ABOUT THE JD JORDAAN
JD Jordaan studied Wood Production Engineering from 1993-1994 at SAASVELD Port Elizabeth Technikon. Due to him growing up on a Farm and losing both parents at age 9, he further studied Agricultural Management NDIP from 1994 – 1997. After a major car accident in 1997, and needing to teach himself to walk again (doctors wanted to amputate his leg but he refused and they said, he will never walk again), he pursued a career in construction and not farming. JD has been part of the building, construction and roofing industry for more than 20 years. With experience in the construction, erection, fabrication and building maintenance sectors. He completed major projects in structural roofs as the owner of Trispan including the design manufacturing and installation of steel structures for Ellis Park, Pick ‘n Pay and Spar distribution centres in Johannesburg. He developed further with concrete slabs in the rib and block pre-and-post tension and cast-in-situ concrete slabs. Working with concrete gave him the sense of “life” in construction, where he could become involved in civil works and had the opportunity to develop in general building work ranging from low cost developments, ablutions and housing growing into the international oil and gas refineries in the civil and mechanical engineering field. In Saudi Arabia he worked for AYTB as Superintendent and was part of a $5M project constructing two 3750m² Off Grid offices for a major Fuel refinery in the desert with modular buildings as a turn key project. This has included the civils, concrete works, asphalt, building, sewage, off-grid water supply, power, security, fire protection, communications, interior design, staff breakfasts and lunches as well as furnishing, computer networking and board room facilities among various other projects. JD is the founder and owner of Handy Family, where he lives out his passion for construction by transforming or improving buildings to the customers’ vision and satisfaction.
