Kidbrook Estate, Onrus North, Hermanus. And thus ends our six week adventure of re developing the main common gardens surrounding the Kidbrooke clubhouse, parking, swimming pool area, dam and main entrance. At the entrance, clubhouse and parking areas, a simple, waterwise planting pallet was implemented, creating impact through simplistic companion planting combinations and low hedges that would work with the design of the estate to revitalise the otherwise tired gardens. Included in the design, was the construction of a feature seating wall mimicking the architecture of the clubhouse and the laying of indigenous Buffalo grass. A mixed fynbos landscape was implemented in large open areas surrounding the swimming pool areas incorporating substantial drifts of a limited pallet of Proteacea and Fynbos plantings creating an informal but controlled picture of amazing colour and texture once the garden matures. By the way, yes we did do a mass planting of Pansies at the clubhouse entrance, a whimsical interlude!
