We have had about 180mm of rain since the rains started in mid October. I think 130/140 of this has been in November. I read somewhere that the average for this area, in November is 170mm and so we are heading for a period well above average.

Good advise from Random Harvest Nursery

The single most important factor in controlling w**ds is to pull them out before they flower and before they form their seeds and drop them. If your w**d crop is not huge and they have not formed seeds you can drop the plants you have pulled back onto the soil. This is green mulch, and they will turn brown in a day or two and turn into compost.

If the w**d crop is extensive, it is better to put them onto your compost heap to decompose. If your compost heap gets turned and is composting properly, the heat generated will kill any residual seeds from the w**ds.

If you allow the w**ds to seed year after year you will develop a huge seed bank in the soil and the w**ds will germinate year after year. This is why it is imperative that you remove the w**ds before they seed.

Some more pics to start the new year. Incidentally I have just seen why the last few posts didn't automatically post to both Instagram and facebook. I hadn't ticked all the necessary boxes for this to happen. Hopefully I've sorted this out.

Happy New Year.
