Something to look out for: Lantana Camara, a category 1 invasive w**d that unfortunately had been brought into the country as an ornamental shrub, and it's easy to see why: Those flowers come in a wide range of colours and it's actually very pretty!
But that has unfortunately meant that after our South African nurseries has already sold off a lot of these easy to propagate plants, a great many of them escaped gardens and started establishing themselves in our natural landscapes.
Nothing here eats the plant, so it has no natural predators. Livestock get poisoned if they try consume this, while insects love the flowers and birds enjoy the berries, helping spread these around all over.
Luckily there are many alternatives to this plant that one can use.
Let's garden responsibly!
