C3 Architect has its roots in Hope Clark Associates, which had its head office in Harare with branch offices Zambia and Malawi between 1952 and 2000. Chris Clark graduated as an Architect from the University of KwaZulu Natal in 1978 and opened an office for Hope Clark Associates in Durban in 1982. The Durban practice became Clark and Thomas Architects in 1989, and enjoyed twenty successful years before becoming C3 Architect in 2002 with Chris Clark as the sole principal. In 2007, C3 Architect combined resources with Walker Smith Architects in a collaborative partnership. This enables C3 Architect to offer the personalised hands on attention to detail of a small practice with the resources of a larger practice capable of managing projects up to a value of R250m
In 2010 Tracy Clark graduated from the University of Pretoria with a master’s degree in Architecture and will bring a new dimension to C3 Architect in 2011 while becoming the third generation family member in the practice. Our strategy…

C3 Architect strives for excellence through professionalism and subscribes to the principles and ethics of the Architectural Profession as a Corporate Member of the South African Institute for Architecture. All aspects of Professional Architectural services are offered, and the practice carries professional Indemnity cover of R10m. Chris Clark was elected as Vice President of the KwaZulu Natal Institute for Architecture in 2007, but stepped down due to client priorities. Chris Clark as the practice Principal offers the benefits of thirty two years of professional experience in a diverse range of projects that includes:
• Specialised expertise in Hotel, Resort and Hospitality developments, and
• Experience in general commercial, Industrial, and housing developments. Practical knowledge and experience of hotel management and operations has been gained from fourteen years of service on the Board of Trustees of a 600 bed resort that is managed by a leading Hotel group. Further experience was gained from a two year project to set up Facilities Management systems for the hotel industry. With this background Chris Clark has been able to offer consultation and advice to Developers, Project Managers, and Hoteliers for the establishment or improvement of hospitality ventures
