Farmers deserve admiration for their resilience and determination; they are among the hardest-working individuals in society. What they truly need are empowering systems that enable them to thrive from their labor. Many farmers overcome incredible obstacles not because they lack perseverance, but because the system around them is ripe for transformation. They often sell their products at remarkably low prices while consumers pay significantly higher amounts, with middlemen taking a substantial share of the profit. At the same time, the cost of inputs such as fertilizers, seeds, and pesticides continues to rise, leaving farmers with well-deserved income. Unstable market prices, limited access to financial support, and increasing climate risks further underscore the need for innovative farming solutions. Because of these challenges, sympathy alone does not empower them to reach their full potential. What farmers need are fair pricing, better access to markets, affordable resources, and robust support from policies and institutions. When these systems are transformed, farmers can earn what they deserve and sustain their livelihoods with dignity.
