Designed for The Soft Life at Decorex Johannesburg 2026.

What does a kitchen designed for The Soft Life look like?

For Tharina Lembisch and Esmerelda Moller, it meant creating a space where comfort, functionality and considered design come together. Soft curves, warm natural finishes and layered textures work together to create a calm, inviting atmosphere, while the sculpted island becomes a focal point for conversation and connection.

PG Bison’s Luca Polenta carcassisng and Congo SupaMatt and Earlswood SupaTexture featured for the cabinetry design, for an overall look with depth and warmth.

The result? A kitchen designed not only to be seen, but to be experienced.

“Visitors really responded to the warm and cosy feel of the space. Many said they loved the look and wanted to recreate the same feeling in their own homes.” Designers: Tharina Lembisch and Esmerelda Moller.

For decades, the kitchen work triangle — connecting the fridge, sink and hob — has been the golden rule of kitchen design.

But kitchens have evolved. Today, they’re not just for cooking. They’re spaces to entertain, work, socialise, prepare meals and spend time together.

That’s why we’re seeing a shift towards kitchen zoning — creating dedicated areas for preparation, cooking, cleaning, storage, coffee and entertaining.

But does that mean the work triangle is outdated? Not necessarily. We believe good kitchen design is about understanding how you live and creating a space that works around your lifestyle.

Perhaps it’s not about saying goodbye to the triangle… but about evolving the way we think about kitchen design.
