One camera isn’t a security system.
Most homes we walk into have cameras and nothing else. So when something happens, you get footage. You don’t get a warning.
Here’s how we actually build it five layers, outside in:
1. The yard. Motion sensors mounted outside, aimed across the garden and approach. This is the layer people skip, and it’s the one that buys you time it picks movement up in the yard, not at your door.
2. The walls. Hikvision ColourVu cameras that see in full colour at night instead of the grey smudge you can’t identify. If you ever need the footage, you want a face, not a shape.
3. Doors and windows. That small white block on the frame is a magnet sensor. The second a door or window opens, the panel knows it doesn’t need to see anything or hear anything. Most people have never noticed these and they’re the backbone of the whole system.
4. The rooms. Motion detection inside, for anything that gets past the first three.
5. The response. Siren outside and an alert on your phone at the same moment. Everything wired back to one cabinet NVR, PoE switch, IDS panel, cabling dressed properly.
And the part nobody tells you: because doors and windows are their own layer, you can arm just the outside at night and leave the rooms off. Your perimeter is live while you sleep, and you can still walk to the kitchen at 2am without setting the whole house off.
That’s the difference between an alarm you use and an alarm you switch off because it’s annoying.
