Herb of the month!

Coriander grows to a height of 60cm and a spread of 15cm. It has pretty clusters of small white flowers that turn to pungent seeds which are commonly used whole or ground in Indian and middle-eastern cooking. The lush, green lower leaves can be harvested for use in cooking.

Garden tasks for November -
Lawns need regular watering and weeding, feeding and mowing.
Deadhead feed and water established summer flowering annuals. As the last spring flowers come to an end, remove and dig compost , bone meal into bare patches and fill with seedlings. For a ' Christmassy' garden choose reds, yellows and oranges.

Plants for attracting birds into your garden.

Lavender attracts butterflies and therefore, insect-eating birds.
Nectar lovers are crazy about Wild dagga plant (Leonotis)
Aloes and wild grasses provide natural habitat for birds.
Cape honeysuckle (Tecomaria capensis) will satisfy a variety of birds.
Create a paradise by providing them with food and water and you will soon reap the rewards.

Add gorgeous colour and attract butterflies to your garden with Scabiosa. Scabiosa is an annual that will brighten your flower beds in shades of lavender, pink, mauve and white. This hardy plant blooms prolifically transforming your garden into a meadow. They prefer full sun and grow in virtually any type of soil.

All eyes on theIris
Our indigenous wild iris, Dietes, grows easily, is not fussy, and flowers for months on end.
Dietes grows in virtually any soil in full sun or semi-shade. The plant will not flower particularly well in full shade. It is hardy and is frost resistant and can survive without water for fairly long stretches.But for the best show plant in compost - rich soil and water regularly during summer.
