NOVEMBER GARDENING GUIDE πβ

We are at that time of year again where the holiday season is quickly approaching. Whether youβre planning a well needed vacation away or just staying inland. Don't let all your hard work in the garden go to waste while youβre away. π
Prepare your garden for the holidays by weeding those flowerbeds, putting in more general fertiliser, watering the garden well in the early evenings, and being wise by adding mulch. Are you staying home for the festive season? π‘
Here are our top gardening tips to help spruce up your summer garden. β

πΈ Add or replace those old and tired spring annuals with bright summer colour, there is plenty to choose from at Tuingenoot.
πΉ Be sure to fertilise your roses with a quality rose food like m Colourburst Rose Food or Wonder Rose & Flower from wonder, and remember the more you deadhead the more you encourage new blooms.
π¦ Look at adding Waterwise Crystals into the soil before planting anything into your hanging baskets, this will help retain moisture for longer.
πͺ΄ If you have containers around the entertainment area, why not look at adding bursts of fresh color by adding annuals, or colorful groundcovers.
πΏ Broadleaf weeds and grasses are a common problem on paved surfaces. You can control this with clear pave or no W**d Paving.
πͺ° Be on the lookout for sucking insects on your azaleas, if you however notice some damaging your plants, Drench them with Plant Protector or Oleum to protect them from these insects.
πΏ Look at fertilising all your plants in the garden with Atlantic Fertiliser, it will give them that extra boost and keep them healthy.
π³ Are you struggling with unwanted trees and shrubs that need to be controlled, roots and all. Look at getting Garlon 4 from Efekto apply straight onto the cut stumps.
IN THE FRUIT TREE GARDEN β

π Your strawberries will be ripening as the warmer weather becomes more constant. If you are located in the colder areas, pick the last of the citrus.
πΏ If your leaves of your fruit trees are showing black spots on the upper or lower leaf surface, and spots later turn olive green or black and velvety. Older spots on the upper surface give infected leaves a blistered, scabby appearance. They may be suffering from apple scab. Look at treating them with Efekto Virikop.
π Apples and pears will need protection from codling moths, you can do this by spraying them with Cypermethrin or spray kill 3.
π± If you haven't already look at planting Passion fruit, just remember that they need something to climb up to support its tendrils and vines. Both can be found at our nursery.
β If you are having issues with scale insects you can treat them with Malasol.
πͺ° Following a fruit fly programme using Efekto Fruitfly Bait is essential if you are wanting to have a good harvest.
IN THE VEGETABLE GARDEN β

π₯ Continue sowing things like Beans, beetroot, capsicums, carrots, celery, courgettes, cucumbers, eggplants, leeks, lettuces, radishes, rocket, Swiss chard, spinach, sweetcorn, and tomatoes.
π₯¦ Continue harvesting your Asparagus, broad beans, broccoli, cabbages, cauliflowers, lettuces, rocket, spinach, and spring onions.
π Slugs and snails always seem to appear out of nowhere, and they can devour your veggie patch in no time. Look at controlling them with Sluggem or Sluggit, lay the pellets down at dusk, we they start to become active.
π Be sure to keep an eye out for caterpillars that will eat the leaves. These unwelcome visitors can make a real mess of your vegetable garden and are best dealt with either Efekto Eco Insect Control or Margaret Roberts Organic Insecticide.
πͺ± Noticing your seedlings disappear after nightfall? You may have a cutworm problem on your hands. Treat with Cutworm bait, also look at laying the pellets down at dusk.
πͺ° Look out for thrips these tiny sap-sucking insects love to infest light-coloured flowers. You can protect your plants with Neem oil or Margaret Roberts Organic Insecticide.
INDOOR PLANTS β

β Be sure to keep an eye out for pests. Our indoor plants are perfect targets for a few pest ranging from, Red spider mites, Thrips, mealybugs, scale, to list a few. Treat effected plants with either Neem oil, Margaret Roberts Organic Insecticide, or Oleum. A good practice to have is to hose your plants leaves down every 2 weeks, this will keep leaves clean and disrupt the pests life cycle.
πΏ Now is the time to feed your indoor plants and ferns regularly with a specially formulated plant food to promote healthy leaf growth and lots of flowers. Our preferred choice is Kelp or Trelmix, as they have very little to no odour.
πΈ A common misconception is that orchids are a difficult plant to grow, but with the right conditions and care, you can grow them quite easily. Put them in a humid part of your home, like the bathroom, place them in an area where they will receive bright indirect light, and stand the pot in a shallow dish of water. You'll be surprised at how much they'll grow.
FOR THE FLOWER GARDEN β

πΉ Continue picking your Roses, iris, delphiniums, stock, snapdragons, lavender, chrysanthemums, gerbera, sweet peas, and poppies, this will also help encourage new flower growth.
πΌ Needing to add some colour to a pot or corner of the garden, look at planting things like, zinnias, alyssum, asters, begonias, chrysanthemums, Californian poppies, carnations, cosmos, dahlias, dianthus, gazanias, geraniums, gypsophila, impatiens, marigolds, petunias, nasturtiums, phlox, salvia, snapdragons, statice, sunflowers, and verbena. π¦ Start watering those dry areas in the garden, the best time being in the morning or early evening. Give a deep watering the soil. Along with incorporating compost amd mulch to help the soil hold onto more moisture, if you have a large area its no problem, we sell both compost and mulch in bulk.
πΏ Look at applying Protek flower power, or Atlantic fertiliser to your flowering plants ensuring good flower bud development for summer displays.
FOR THE LAWNS β

π¦ To cure and prevent lawn disease treat your lawns with Efekto Lawn Fungicide. This systemic fungicide will be carried into the root zone of your lawn, offering your lawn protection from diseases such as, brown patch, dollar spot, and more.
πΏ If your lawn is looking dull and dreary, You can still get it looking great for summer by applying fertilawn, or Lan/Kan fertiliser, watering in thoroughly after application.
π‘ Nothing beats a lush, thick green lawn. If your lawn feels spongy to walk on, it may be a sign that you have a mole cricket problem. Control them with Efekto Plant Protector, or Lawn pest and green fertiliser.
βοΈ Have you noticed your lawn disappearing in patches? You may have harvester termites treat the problem with Kamikaze or Cypermethrin.
