This serious road traffic accident involving P. Mwansa bus services, Likili bus services and a Toyota vits occurred this week on Sunday morning when i was traveling for Samfya on the Serenje Mkushi highway near the Alpha Minimart turn-off yet it went largely unreported by major media houses. That silence is troubling and unacceptable.
This was not just another accident. It exposes long-standing problems on our roads: reckless driving, weak enforcement of road safety laws, poor vehicle inspections, and a system that too often treats human life as expendable.
How many more Zambians must be injured or killed before firm action is taken?
We call for immediate and thorough scrutiny of public transport drivers, including re-testing, continuous monitoring, and zero tolerance for speeding, fatigue, and dangerous driving. Vehicles carrying passengers must meet strict roadworthiness standards, and negligence must attract stiff penalties.
Passengers are not cargo.
Human beings are not statistics.
Silence protects negligence. Accountability saves lives.
Authorities, transport operators, and regulators must act decisively. Road safety in Zambia is not optional—it is a responsibility. Notably, this incident did not receive coverage from major media outlets, limiting public awareness and accountability.
Transparent reporting of all major road incidents to promote accountability.
Protecting human life must be prioritized over operational convenience or profit. Preventable accidents demand preventive action.
We urge authorities and relevant stakeholders to act decisively to strengthen road safety and protect citizens.
Enough is enough. Lives must come first.
