Educational facility , offices and a small museum
The new building is conceived as a stepped volume, designed to allow light to reach the square in front of the church while at the same time creating a friendly and inviting presence.
The second floor cantilevers 7 meters beyond the main entrance, generating a covered forecourt and an inviting spatial gesture for its users. This overhang establishes a protected, shaded area, transforming the plaza in front of the building into an open, continuous space free of physical barriers — a setting that accommodates gatherings and celebrations throughout the Orthodox calendar.
Above the second floor, the newly formed terrace hosts seven cypress trees — living elements that have become part of the site’s evolving narrative — creating a serene veranda and a dignified background for the church.
Internally, this space houses a small memorial musem honoring prominent figures of the community and their enduring contributions. As the vertical roots of the seven cypresses require depth, the planters that sustain them are integrated as architectural components within the interior, becoming both structural and symbolic elements of remembrance. This space is thus poetically named the “Museum of Roots.”
