Korça Multifunctional Stadium – An Urban Vision for a New Generation By Olsi Mino, Architect / .atelier.al , May 2023.
“Park Stadium” represents a deeply collaborative effort between renowned architectural firms , led by Marco Casamonti and through a strong Albanian collaboration between , architect , and myself, Olsi Mino. Developed as part of one of Albania’s most important architectural competitions — Phase II of the International Concept Design Competition for the redevelopment of the “Skënderbeu” Stadium and renovation of the existing Sports Palace in Korça — this project embraces a forward-looking, urban-centric approach.
Inspired by the city’s natural and historical landscape, our design goes beyond the conventional role of a stadium. It aspires to redefine the urban system of spaces and experiences, blurring the boundaries between sport, culture, recreation, and the everyday life of the city.
Our primary objective was to enrich, connect, and expand Korça’s existing urban structure, introducing new typologies and spatial layers that weave social experience and urban identity into a unified architectural gesture.
The new Korça stadium was envisioned not merely as a venue for events, but as a dynamic civic destination — a connector between fragmented urban zones, a catalyst for public life, and a living interface with nature and the surrounding landscape.
Furthermore, this project was designed as a hinge between key urban anchors — the university campus, Parku Rinia, and the city’s two principal boulevards — synchronizing diverse urban elements into a renewed spatial narrative.
Although our proposal was not selected as the final winning entry, we are proud of its contribution to the competition, offering a reimagined vision of what stadium can be: not only a functional structure, but a spatial and cultural generator for the city and its people.
