A quiet moment above the city.

Positioned against panoramic glazing, the freestanding bath transforms an everyday ritual into a moment of escape - a place to slow down, unwind and take in the city from a completely different perspective.

Mercure Melbourne La Trobe, suite 1603 offers one of the hotel's most memorable moments.

The private dining room at The Foundry creates a feeling of retreat - warm, intimate and removed from the energy beyond, while generous glazing maintains a connection to Flagstaff Gardens and the city.

Deep, earthy tones, softly layered lighting and tactile finishes bring warmth and richness to the experience, creating a space that feels both private and inviting.

At The Foundry, warmth and intimacy shape the experience. Rich tones, tactile finishes and softly layered lighting create the feeling of being cocooned within the space - comfortable, relaxed and removed from the pace of the city outside.

Yet Melbourne is always present. Expansive glazing draws in natural light and opens to views across Flagstaff Gardens and the skyline, creating a beautiful interplay between intimacy and openness.

As day moves into evening, the atmosphere shifts with it, from light-filled dining to the warmth and energy of the bar.

First impressions matter.

Where contemporary design meets timeless elegance- a welcoming atmosphere that makes every arrival feel special.

An art installation that has been created to pay homage to the site's history, celebrating its story while bringing a sense of place and identity to the space. It's a reminder that great design isn't just about aesthetics, it's about preserving and honouring what came before.

Because the best interiors don't just look beautiful, they tell a story.

Introducing - Mercure Melbourne La Trobe Street

A contemporary hospitality destination shaped by context, craft and experience.

Designed by SORA Interiors in collaboration with LiFE Architecture, the 18-storey hotel transforms a constrained CBD site into a design-led urban retreat comprising 183 guest rooms, suites and public hospitality spaces overlooking Flagstaff Gardens.

Drawing inspiration from the site's former life as a tinsmith factory, the interiors reinterpret Melbourne's industrial heritage through crafted metal detailing, warm materiality and layered textures, creating a hotel experience that is distinctly connected to place.

This project represents a new model for urban hospitality - balancing operational efficiency with meaningful design and a memorable guest experience.

Finalist ✨

Mercure Melbourne La Trobe Street has been named a finalist in the Development of the Year - Hotels & Accommodation category at the 2026 The Urban Developer Awards.

Originally inherited as a project facing significant commercial and design challenges, the development was reimagined through the combined efforts of LiFE Architecture and SORA Interiors to create a contemporary hospitality destination within a constrained Melbourne CBD site.

Together, architecture and interiors work to balance operational performance with guest experience, delivering 183 guest rooms, destination hospitality spaces overlooking Flagstaff Gardens and a strong sense of place inspired by the site's industrial heritage as a former tinsmith factory.

This recognition reflects the power of collaboration, strategic design thinking and the dedication of an outstanding project team.

Congratulations to our client and project partners on this achievement!
