Old New House.
A familiar suburban form, reworked with care and consideration. The original brick shell is retained and refreshed—its quiet, stoic presence on the street respected rather than erased. Subtle adjustments and interventions breathe new life into the facade, demonstrating how small, strategic moves can carry lasting impact.
An old house, made new. not by starting over, but by looking closer.

This is Little Gough.
Richmond's industrial heritage and character are closely tied to the humble red brick. The new addition of this project, Little Gough, draws inspiration from the rich tapestry of brick architecture that defines the neighbourhood. Its varying bond patterns and subtle articulations preserve the familiar visual rhythm of the brick while offering a refined and contemporary reinterpretation.

Planning permit approved! Exciting steps ahead as we bring our Gough St project to life.
Positioned across from the iconic Richmond maltings silos (of Nylex clock fame), this uniquely shaped site came with its share of challenges. Sandwiched between a residential street and industrial precinct, the house sits in a kind of no-man's land—belonging fully to neither. Our design works to consolidate this fractured identity, creating a transitional space that thoughtfully bridges the contrasting neighbourhood character.

The living room at Combarton House features a striking architectural gesture—a sweeping curved ceiling that lifts the roof up to the north to capture natural light, bathing the space in daylight.

The natural upward slope of the land of Combarton House creates an opportunity to introduce subtle floor level changes. Paired with varying ceiling heights, these shifts establish a rhythmic flow of spatial expansion and compression as one moves through the house.
The central courtyard is able to open up to ensure the interior remains well-lit, ventilated, and refreshingly open.

For Combarton House, the rear extension is anchored by a central courtyard that bisects the dining and living spaces. Serving as both a buffer and a breathing space, the courtyard introduces greenery and open air, punctuating the otherwise continuous sequence of indoor rooms.

Not all projects make it beyond the drawing board, but some remain very close to our hearts. This design for a single-story extension to a weatherboard Californian bungalow in Box Hill was one such project.
Pocket sliding doors seamlessly connect indoor living to the garden, while integrated outdoor seating creates an inviting nook to enjoy the sun.

Not all projects make it beyond the drawing board, but some remain very close to our hearts. This design for a single-story extension to a weatherboard Californian bungalow in Box Hill was one such project.
Located in a heritage-rich area, the approach required careful sensitivity to honour the character of the original home, so the footprint was thoughtfully expanded instead of building upwards. The extension mirrors the width of the old house, with a flat roof that sits just below the eave line. At the rear, spaces open to the outdoors, while a skillion roof breaks free to draw in northerly light to the main living areas.

Hill House is conceived as an arrangement of stacked, box-like forms, dynamically offset to create a striking architectural statement. The cantilevered upper level projects outward, deliberately contrasting between solid mass and open space.
This careful balance of weight and proportion creates a sense of lightness, allowing the structure to appear as if it hovers above its base.
