🌚🌱 It all started with a box of old green beans.
The story of how Kirsty and I found each other to create the most epic business partnership that ever was!
I was a market gardener, sorting through a 10kg box of green beans, perfectly good but too old to sell for the next week. I had no idea what to do with them, and the thought of them going to waste made me feel sad. I didn’t expect to find a buyer for them, but I had to try. That’s when I met Kirsty.
Kirsty was a quiet, permaculture-minded neighbour, a woman whose philosophy was rooted in not letting food go to waste. She was a bit of a genius when it came to making preserves.
When I arrived at her place to deliver the beans, I didn’t know what to expect, but it didn’t take long for us to connect.
We hit it off immediately, exchanging stories of growing and preserving. She was as passionate about food security as I was. As we chatted, I noticed something in the corner of the paddock... greenhouse hoops!
Just the frames... sitting there,
with all their potential.
“What’s going on with those?”
She shrugged, “It’s a dying dream of mine to get them skinned and start working from home, start farming in them. But life’s busy, and I haven’t had the time. I've been saving up for 10 years to get them finished!”
The words hung in the air, and in that moment, something clicked. I had a similar dream, to find someone nearby, who’d be willing to share their greenhouse space to grow veggie seedlings. It felt like the perfect opportunity.
“I’d love to help you with that,” I said without thinking. “If you’re interested, we can start growing veggie seedlings together.”
And just like that, the seed of something bigger was planted.
And so we started working together. Our shared passion for sustainability and food security created a bond that went beyond the green beans... We also became pretty good friends and neighbours.
From a jar of dilly beans to a thriving partnership, it’s amazing how one simple exchange can lead to good things.
