Gerberas, old fashioned? Not any more! There are new colours and these are lovely large blooms.
It’s best to remove flowers on planting to reduce the plant’s stress. So now we have more blooms to enjoy inside 🌸🌸🌸

Zinnias are a lovely summer annual, adding a pop of colour and joy to the garden when some plants are struggling with the heat. They come in a wide variety of colour and form and varying heights from 10cm-100cm.
They are from south west United States to South America.
The flowers are composite flowers consisting of ray florets, the outer petals of varying colour, this surrounds the disk florets(inner flowers) which are the tiny, usually yellow, structures in the centre. These are visible on the pictures below. It is the disk florets which produce pollen and once pollinated produce seeds. These delightful flowers are bee and butterfly friendly.

This is commonly called ’snail vine’ scientific name Cochliasanthus Caracalla, (Caracalla is a corruption of the Portuguese caracol meaning snail). It originates from tropical South America and Central America. It is a perennial vine, the flowers are fragrant, it doesn’t tolerate frost - however in Adelaide we get occasional frosts so I cut it down before winter treating it like a herbaceous perennial.
Following flowering it produces bean shape seed pods.
In the pic you can see the very early flowers, then the snail shape, then an open flower which is followed by an orange and purple flower I’ll attach in the comments

OK, let’s test people.
One of these flowers is not like the others. One is edible, the rest are poisonous. Never eat any plant you cannot positively, absolutely, without a doubt identify.
So, can anyone tell me the difference? Let me know in the comments. (I‘ll confirm the answer in a week)

I love the vivid blue of cornflowers, I have grown other colours but they have less impact.
The pink is a frilly dianthus, same family as carnations, they call them pinks, regardless of colour, due to their cut edges, like ‘pinking shears’. Maybe only people of my age know what pinking shears are though lol
