Hi
I know its been a while, I am still gardening and I still have my green thumbs. I haven't been keeping up-to-date with photos etc due to starting a small business in pinning, preserving and mounting butterflies I would love and appreciate it if you would follow or like and join along with me at Butterflies In Oz πŸ¦‹πŸ¦‹πŸ¦‹

Stink filled joy as my second Vulgaris opened Wednesday. I also had my first turn at pollinating it!

When pollinating I had to cut two windows inside the spathe to gain access to the female flowers when I opened one this decent sized beetle fell out. What an absolute fright I got!

I swear I'm not crazy. I didn't just take my plant for a drive I took it to my friends house for her to see it hehe ☺️

Sorry for the late post 😞

My four beautiful milkweed plants have brought my first teeny visitor... a monarch caterpillar... I know they're around because there is heaps of little bits of leaf missing where they have been snacking 🌱🌱

One of the coolest things for me with the plants I grow is that once the inflorescence is out you actually can't see the flowers unless you look into the spathe (cone around the spike) at the bottom of the spadix (spike). That's wear the magic is. After speaking with some plant friends the best way for me to see the flowers was to cut the spathe and truthfully I really didn't want to chop up such a beautiful plant, I wanted to enjoy it. So today I cut myself a window to peak in to see the flowers! What also surprised me was the stripes inside. This part of the plant was the same height as my hand!!

In the coming days I will be, for the first time attempting to pollinate this species with the next Vulgaris which is currently at 30cm and I believe will bloom in around a weeks time.

Enjoy the photos!!
