Free adulations go to the first person who can correctly state what is so unusual about this picture, which was taken in my Aldinga Beach garden this evening.

What is this strange sound on my roof,
And this unfamiliar precipitation descending from the sky?
Is it that long forgotten phenomenon of rain,
That for so long seems to have passed us by?
May the lies I told when I was 17 still affect us,
Like the man whose feet were too big for his bed,
That the Bureau of Meteorology protect us,
So this lasts for weeks and months ahead.

The Blackbird Dilemma
Blackbirds may be English immigrants, but we won't hold that against them. The issue I have with blackbirds is that, as quickly as I put down mulch and plant my vegie seeds in it, the blackbirds dig it all up looking for greeblies in the soil, such as earwigs. They don't dig up established plants, but they will carelessly rip out any seedlings that emerge. So I cover my newly seeded areas to keep the blackbirds away from them. The trouble is that, without the blackbirds to keep the earwigs at bay, the earwigs are free to chomp away at my seedlings. It's a Catch 22 situation.
My solution is to plant masses of seed and cover the area with wire mesh to keep the blackbirds out (upturned wire plant hangers are useful for this). When the seedlings that survive the initial onslaught from the earwigs are big enough, I remove the wire and let the blackbirds in. It's a bit haphazard, but the plants that survive are the strongest, fastest growing ones, so I guess it is a way of selectively thinning the seedlings.

I'm very grateful to all the people who lined South Rd and Port Rd in Aldinga to cheer me on as I returned home from my job in Happy Valley this morning. I really appreciate your support.
Special shout-out to SAPOL. Thanks for the es**rt.

Bursaria spinosa – SA’s own native Christmas Tree – now showing near you.
Whilst we were preparing our Christmas decorations, so too were the many Bursaria spinosa growing in native bushland and planted around our suburban streets. Now
resplendent in their creamy white floral display, these native bushes will continue to flower throughout the festive season.
Bursaria spinosa also harbour a little Christmas surprise for those who attempt to grab their branches or climb through them. As the name suggests, the branches are covered with sharp spines. Adelaide’s councils often plant Bursaria spinosa in places where they don’t want people to go, often alongside their equally prickly housemates, Acacia padoxa - the Kangaroo Thorn. See if you can spot some beautifully decorated Bursaria spinosa growing in your neighbourhood.

Rain easing? ... what rain?
Looks like we're caught in the middle again.
Edit: OK, so we did end up getting a few mils yesterday, but we are still about 200ml short of the average this year. Whilst the Bom is predicting above average rainfall for December, unless we get 40% of our average rainfall over the next month, it's going to be one of the driest years in a very long time. Let's hope things wetten up a bit soon.
