Instagram: .studio and a true connoisseur of art, colours, and light. From an early age, noli displayed a deep fascination with the interplay between these elements and how they enhance the beauty of objects. It was the intricate world of innovated surfaces and meticulously curated tesserae that captur

ed his imagination, as he recognized their profound impact on both the aesthetic of a home and an individual's positive mental health. During his time as a university student and living in Glebe, NSW, noli adorned the main entrance of his house with tiles, although they may have been old-fashioned by today's standards. As a marketing student, he sought a commodity to explore, and tiles became a fascinating subject for him. With a diverse background as a waterproofing consultant, floor and wall tiler, and later as a builder and renovator, noli has accumulated over two decades of invaluable experience, working on a multitude of projects. Through these endeavours, he has had the privilege of witnessing and learning from thousands of clients, each with their unique and distinctive design preferences. Above all, he discovered that the key element to creating a positive home environment lies in bespoke designs and high-quality products. Not only does this approach imbue homes with meaning and artistic flair, but it also promotes sustainability by ensuring these dwellings withstand the test of time, even as new owners make them their own. Motivated by his passion and belief in the transformative power of exceptional design, Noli embarked on a global quest to seek out the world's most talented artists and makers of curated mosaic and tiles. His goal was simple - to share these remarkable creations with you, so that you too can experience the magic they bring to your living spaces. In addition to his commitment to delivering extraordinary products, noli has gone a step further by establishing a chat forum for both DIY enthusiasts and industry professionals (opening soon). This platform serves as a vibrant hub for like-minded individuals to connect, exchange ideas, and share their passion for elevating the artistry of homes. noli's journey has been one of dedication, exploration, and an unwavering commitment to enriching the lives of others through outstanding design. With PLONC., he invites you to embark on your own transformative journey and create spaces that reflect your unique personality and artistic vision. m: +61 (0) 430 270 666

Most things we encounter are judged by their appearance.

But what interests me is how they came into being.

At this year’s design exhibition, I found myself thinking less about what was new and more about the different ways ideas become physical.

Some through technology.

Some through tradition.

Some through the pressure of a hand.

Others through the precision of a machine.

Whether a surface is painted, fired, carved or manufactured, it carries traces of the decisions, knowledge and people behind it.

Perhaps that is what gives materials their meaning.

Not simply what they are.

But the stories embedded within them.

Thank you to:

Why do some things stay with us, while others are forgotten?

A painting in Cammeray led me to think about this.

Not just paintings, but houses, objects, landscapes, and the work of makers who leave something of themselves behind.

Perhaps what endures is not the object itself.

Perhaps it is the care, thought, and humanity embedded within it.

Before a material enters a room, it passes through the hands of someone who has committed years to understanding it.

This film follows fragments of that relationship.

Most design expos are designed around immediacy.

Surfaces competing for attention.
Patterns engineered for quick consumption.
Materials reduced to trend cycles.

This June, plonc. will be presenting a different material position at Sydney Design Expo 2026.

Geological relief surfaces shaped through Australian landscape memory. And handcrafted Japanese tiles formed slowly through glaze, fire and material patience.

Not surfaces intended to dominate a room immediately. But surfaces designed to continue unfolding over time.
