Here's the news and weather. Cooler conditions are forecast for the next week so after some rain (perhaps this arvo) the grass can be safely cut, but not too low. Wait until the moisture has left the grass then cut on the highest setting for a thick neat cover. The nursery needs to be empty by the 28th so our sale continues with 30% OFF EVERYTHING! Lovely deciduous trees for cool shade, roses with fresh new growth and flowering now, local tubestock and hardware, gloves etc. OPEN MONDAY TO FRIDAY 9am to 12 midday. See you there!

We are still waiting for the repair crew for the fence and shade house so we are still open 9am to 12 midday monday to friday to clear stock. With the fence coming down we need all stock to go. Our final day will be in a week or so so FOLLOW US for updates. The lack of rain has seen the roses coming on beautifully and at 30% off they are great value and big and bushy. The need for shade is real so pick up some small deciduous trees that are already 2m tall for instant shade and cool branches for birds and beasts. We have beautiful crab apples, golden ash, ornamental cherries and some fruit trees left so choose shade for summer that allows sun in winter, at 30% off! Hardware, gloves and a nice range of pots in neutral colors are still available...at 30% off! Come visit and remember our lovely local seedlings will continue to be available at the Bega markets on friday mornings. Happy Gardening!

Reading this reminded me of the beautiful big trees
we once had in the middle of Bega. So many have disappeared in recent years.

I took the dog for a walk this morning.
As I’m walking, I’m looking at gardens and trees, I’m looking at all sorts of things as I walk.

Suddenly the fragrance in the air changed. It was like I’d just walked into the bush. I looked up to see where the fragrance was coming from. It’s was so beautiful, and lemony, it was amazing.

These Lemon Scented Gum trees were giving off extra fragrance this morning. I’ve noticed that after rain these trees go into over drive when it comes to fragrance. It’s spectacular.

I think we forget sometimes, how much we need fragrance in our lives too. The smell of the bush makes us feel better, it relaxes us.

I looked up at these beautiful Lemon Scented gums, they have the most beautiful white, smooth trunks.

We have to plant more of these.
They make great street trees.
There’s a street in Mt Annan that has these planted on both sides. It looks so beautiful and they shade your cars from the hot sun.

I love the avenue of these planted outside Campbelltown Council. I always look up in awe as I drive through it, and the fragrance is amazing just after rain.
We should plant more.

They’d make great street trees wherever units are going to be built. The foliage would help give privacy, and that lemon fragrance, would waft through the windows, and make people think they were camping somewhere in the bush.

This week we are hearing lots of people are concerned with the soil moisture situation. After a relatively short period of dry weather the soil is dry, cracked and lacking creatures both macro and micro. Strong winds, high evaporation rates and lack of vegetative cover are some of the culprits. Keep your grass cut as high as possible while it is green. If tall grass is yellowing use a brushcutter to knock the top off and leave green length to shade the soil. Of course as grass dries out it needs to be reduced for fire safety but please do not cut green grass. Trees. The land needs canopy to keep the air and soil cool. Strategic tree positions and species will reduce evaporation, keeping grass green under shade and cooling the air around your house and yard. Mulch. Deep mulch will also shade the soil, hold moisture and provide cover for soil creatures escaping waterlogged soil. The long wet winter has depleted the soil life in areas without mulch leading to cracking in the crusty surface. The recent rain brings joy so plan for your garden soils health this summer which will bring health and wellbeing to your plants and to you! Happy gardening.

Canopy and the long shadows caste across pasture and garden are critical now. We can see the soil and soil macro..micro fauna stressed by high temperatures and transpiration..evaporation. Correctly sited corridor plantings benefit everything and everyone.
