It’s been a little while since I’ve done a garden design and implementation (busy on other projects!) and I’d been feeling the pull to get my hands dirty recently.

On Sunday I had a wonderful opportunity to help Ash Rubin design and create his home veggie patch. It was such a rewarding and wonderful to teach alongside gardening, passing on knowledge that becomes a life skill - growing food, and such a beautiful way to share the day!

I have to say It was such a great day ! I thoroughly enjoyed every moment.

If you are interested in setting up your own veggie patch or small orchard let me know. I’d be super happy to do a couple more designs and builds for super keen beans ready to learn veggie gardening 🧑‍🌾

Looking forward to seeing your patch grow Ash Rubin! 🌱🌱🌱🌞

From the garden -

I promised garden updates a while ago, so here they are! The snow peas, sugar snaps and sweet peas climbing higher than our ears! The early tomatoes are coming along nicely in the hot house. There is no room left in the nursery and the new patch is coming along wonderfully with our first crop of beetroot sprouting vigorously. I got my broad fork (pictured happy me) and that means the carrots will be able to dig deep! There is an endless supply of beautiful edible flowers and we are enjoying the fruits of our synergy with the earth in shared meals at home with an abundance of greens, herbs, fruits and veggies.

Pictures speak a thousand words so here is a little feast for your eyes.

Spring in Sherri's garden - mulching the habitat garden and planting Hakea, clay wattle beginning to bloom and wonderful colours and textures. It is beautiful to get back into the garden and into my body after a long slow winter of watching the mulch of life slowly become fertile soil for spring growth!

A lovely winter day of gardening for Sherri on Dja Dja Wrung country in Guildford. Winter is a great time to suppress weeds with a lovely thick layer of wood mulch. I have used a thin layer of cow manure to prevent nitrogen drawdown and to encourage microbial life and the transformation into living topsoil. We are working to nourish and look after over 200 native plant species recently planted, from Newstead Natives. This beautiful garden is working towards being a thriving habitat for local and migratory native birds and pollinators. More photos soon!

It's going to be a hot week!
Make sure to water your garden in the morning before the heat sets in or after the sun sets to keep your soil hyrdated and to prevent water burns on your plants during the day.

Forest gardening - polycultures of herbacious plants, ground covers, creepers, nitrogen fixing plants, mineral accumulators, habitat for native birds and insects and fruit trees!!!
A luscious forest garden collaboration with ecologist and fellow soil ecology enthusiast The Barefoot Geospatialists back in 2016.
See how we grow!
Looking forward to collaborations in the future. May we grow soil, habitat and thrive! 🌿🌿🌿

A big day of Orchard transformation. Converting to syntropic ecology systems utilising mulch and wood from the yard to fertilise and hold in moisture. Step one towards an edible back yard for Peta.

Get in touch if you are in the Guildford/Castlemaine region and you would like an Orchard maintenance/TLC plan or to start eating your back yard! 🌿🌿🌿

Most orchards can be 'retro-fitted' to use less water and be more productive. We also do full design plans.
