Wood Wizards Kitchens ✨ Creating beautiful kitchens. One at a time. ✨

At the heart of this Hawthorn kitchen design sits Polytec Malabar cabinetry in Oyster Grey, a bold yet timeless alternative to white. Chosen for its contemporary micro-shaker profile (detailed enough to add charm yet subtle enough to suit the home’s Edwardian architecture), it delivered the balance our client Jess was searching for. Paired with The Porcelain Factory Enviro 12 Cascade benchtops, with their soft grey tones and delicate veining, the palette settles into a harmony that feels both current and enduring. With highlight windows flooding the space with daylight, Oyster Grey brings warmth and depth without overpowering.

Finishing touches also gave this kitchen its quiet confidence. Touch Vesio handles in Titanium tie in seamlessly with the dark stainless appliances, while the Franke Eos Neo Anthracite Pull-Out Tap and Bolero sink introduce a gentle contrast that feels intentional. On the island’s rear panels, the clean, handleless doors open to reveal generous hidden storage, a reminder that thoughtful design lives just as much behind the scenes as it does on display.

Texture was also key to giving this modern shaker its personality. The Tile Fusion Zellige Ivory Gloss splashback tiles, handmade and slightly irregular, bring depth, soul, and a hint of imperfection that makes the space feel lived in. They catch the light with ease, framing the feature Robert Gordon Ceramic Wall Sconce lights, hand-glazed in Melbourne and one-of-a-kind.

And for Jess, the hidden appliance hutch was a game changer. With its pull-out runner system, the morning routine now runs seamlessly - little luxuries like this bring calm to the chaos of family life, allowing design to work quietly in the background.

From the start, this Hawthorn renovation was never about knocking down walls, it was about unlocking potential. The existing floorplan had good bones, but its 1990s fittings and finishes were ready for a fresh chapter. An evolution from dated to beautifully deliberate.

Jess and Nick’s renovation journey began not with a dramatic redesign, but with a clear goal: transform their kitchen and living area into something calm, current, and purposeful. A kitchen that could grow with their family without the need for changing the footprint. With full lives and little ones in the mix, they wanted a space that felt intuitive to use, flowed beautifully, and would continue to serve them well for years to come.

Functionally, the layout was refined rather than reinvented. Bench seating tucked beneath the island became the quiet hero, creating a gathering nook everyone naturally returns to - a go-to for coffee, chats, and little feet. A hidden appliance hutch with a pull-out runner system transformed their morning routine, keeping crumbs, toast and cereal out of sight when the day begins.

And in true Jess fashion, the styling came together with a thoughtful edit of GlobeWest pieces. Her knack for blending texture, form, and warmth meant a few well-chosen accents were all it took to bring an inviting, lived-in feel to the finished space. It’s the subtle details that make this kitchen feel unmistakably theirs.

Some transformations are loud, dramatic, and unrecognisable. Others - like this one - whisper elegance through every line and finish. Jess and Nick’s Edwardian home in Hawthorn was ready for an update, but it didn’t need reinvention. What it needed was refinement, a reimagined kitchen that worked harder, flowed better, and felt effortlessly modern without losing its character.

As two busy professionals (with one little boy and another on the way), Jess and Nick needed a space that balanced style and practicality, calm amid the daily hustle. The result? A kitchen that feels quietly confident, where subtle design choices come together in perfect harmony.

This renovation began with a simple conversation between Jess and our interior designer, Kirstin - colleagues from GlobeWest who’d become friends long before the first cabinetry sample was chosen. Her recommendation carried real weight, and once Jess and Nick met Jordan in the showroom, everything clicked into place. Clear communication, accurate quoting, transparent timelines and considered advice gave the couple confidence from day one.

Suzie' renovation in Beaumaris wasn’t just about updating finishes, it was about creating a home that embodies her identity and captures the way she wants to live. With the guidance of the Wizards, each detail was deliberate, each decision purposeful. The result is a space that feels expressive, timeless, and deeply personal. A true reflection of its owner, ready to be enjoyed, shared, and cherished for many years to come.

And she couldn't have been happier with not only the finished space, but the process to get there. “I got exactly what I wanted, in the way I wanted, at a price and pace that felt right for me," Suzie explained. "The Wood Wizards team never rushed me, they embraced the journey, the revisions, the little sparks of razzmatazz. They made it joyous! Every trade treated my project with the same care as if it were their own. They understood each other’s roles so well, always going above and beyond, and that collaboration created magic. My home now reflects me. My artistry, my family, my hobbies, my interests... And every time I walk into the kitchen, I know I’ve achieved more than I had ever hoped for. It makes my heart sing.”

A testimonial like that fills us with pride - but it wasn't only Suzie that was impressed with the results. Over Easter last year her family gathered for the first time in the finished space. Their reactions - wide eyes, open mouths, and joyful exclamations - made every decision, every revision, every moment of collaboration worthwhile. Suzie's exact words? “It was one of the happiest days of my life.”

Downsizing was never about doing less for Suzie. It was about creating a home that spoke to her artistry, her confidence, and her joy in bringing people together. From her very first conversation with the Wood Wizards team, it was clear this project would go beyond a simple kitchen renovation - it was about shaping a space that fit her, reflected her, and became an extension of who she is. With her children, friends, and the entire Wood Wizards team supporting her vision, the end result is a space filled with love and pride.

Her journey to this home wasn’t straightforward. After years of searching for the perfect downsizer, she stumbled upon a house in Beaumaris. As the before pictures demonstrate, it didn’t tick every box at first, but she could sense its potential. Good bones. With the Wood Wizards team by her side, what started as a plan to “just trick it up a bit” evolved into a complete transformation, one that would ultimately spark joy. Every. Single. Day.

This kitchen isn’t just a room. It’s a masterpiece. And like all great works of art, it tells a story - of collaboration, creativity, and the magic that happens when dreams and design come together.

Some kitchens are beautiful. Others are functional. And then there are those rare, magical spaces that feel like a true extension of the person who lives within them. Our client Suzie’s kitchen is one of those extraordinary gems.

When Suzie first met with Jordan and the team, she came with a simple request: move the kitchen sink. But as they stood together in her existing space, the list of ideas began to grow, and by the time the conversation ended, they weren’t just talking about a new sink... They were talking about a complete reimagining of the kitchen. Suzie likens the process to creating one of her paintings: an organic, evolving journey. She didn’t want to be rushed, and Wood Wizards honoured that, embracing several revisions to get everything exactly right.

It wasn’t just about creating a space to cook; it was about proving to herself, her family, and her friends that she could bring this vision to life. Loved ones were invited into the process too, with girlfriends joining visits to the showroom to share in the fun and excitement along the way.

If your home is ready for a transfomation to reach its potential and spark joy - it might be time to get in touch with a team like ours that is up to the task. Read more about Wood Wizards and our work via www.woodwizardskitchens.com.au/social or call us on 9557 2988 and let's get started.

This Hampton home is a distinct departure from Cheryl and Tony’s last, and intentionally so. After decades spent raising a family and running a business, they wanted something that felt different - a new rhythm, a new aesthetic. One that reflects who they are now, and the life they’re ready to embrace.

The Polytec Malabar profile cabinetry set the tone, a clean 70s cut that tips its hat to the home’s heritage. Base cabinets in Taubmans Deep Gorge ground the space, while Dulux Snowy Mountains Half overheads and Polytec Boston Oak open shelving bring lightness and warmth. At the centre, the terrazzo island bench makes a statement, balanced by seamless Corian Salt benchtops with a 100mm upstand for a clean, modern finish.

Every choice was intentional. Faucet Strommen handles in Brushed Graphite from Design Precinct give the cabinetry a tactile luxury, paired with a matching Pegasi kitchen tap for perfect continuity. In the laundry and wardrobes, crisp white Bayside Luxe handles keep the look fresh and practical.

Inside the cabinetry, clever storage reigns. A Hafele Dispensa Pantry keeps condiments in plain sight, the Tandem Pantry Arena Style handles bulk items, and a Ninka One2Five bin system tucks neatly away. Strip lighting washes the Byzantine Design tiled splashback in a soft glow, transforming the atmosphere once the sun starts to creep below the horizon.

The laundry is a compact yet highly functional Euro-style design, neatly concealed behind Hettich WingLine 230 folding doors. Deep 800mm benchtops provide room for baskets and folding, while Hafele Hailo Laundry Carriers, open shelving, and internal drawers make sorting and organising effortless. It’s proof that even smaller spaces can deliver exceptional performance with clever planning and smart design.

In the living area, restraint becomes the design hero. The fireplace is quietly framed by handleless push-catch joinery, allowing the feature itself to shine. The cabinetry is intentionally minimal, repeating the kitchen's material story without overpowering the space. It’s a study in knowing when to step back and let the room breathe.

For Cheryl and Tony, this isn’t just a beautiful home, it’s a space that celebrates the way they cook, entertain, and live. Downsizing has been transformative, giving them a simpler, more manageable lifestyle without compromising on the things that matter most. “It’s the best thing we’ve ever done,” confesses Cheryl. And after a lifetime of creating dream kitchens for others, this one is truly their own, a place where they can slow down, savour the moment, and enjoy the next chapter of their lives to the fullest.

Though Cheryl and Tony have been involved in countless renovations over the years, this one was different. It was the first time the entire process - from layout to lighting, benchtops to bin systems - was designed purely for them. Their needs. Their tastes. Their future. And it shows.

When it came to appliances, they knew exactly what mattered: precision, performance, and simplicity. Long-time partners at e&s Moorabbin helped guide the selection, ensuring every piece worked as beautifully as it looked.

At the heart of the kitchen is the Miele Diamond induction cooktop, a 930mm full-surface marvel that gives Cheryl the freedom to cook anything from slow-simmered sauces to morning porridge with ease. Switching from gas was a leap - but one she now says she’ll never look back on.

The Miele 900mm built-in oven adds generous space and symmetry, a favourite of Tony’s when cooking for a crowd. Below the benches, a semi-integrated Miele dishwasher keeps things seamless, while refrigeration is cleverly covered with a Vintec wine fridge, a two-door integrated Miele fridge, and a Fisher & Paykel CoolDrawer freezer tucked into the island - smart, subtle, and space-savvy.

Above it all, the Qasair 900mm canopy rangehood provides powerful yet quiet extraction, made all the more meaningful by being Australian-made.

This kitchen is more than a place to cook. It’s where family gathers, friends connect, and everyday rituals feel special. It’s not just a downsize - it’s an upgrade in every way that matters.

For others considering a similar leap, Cheryl and Tony offer only encouragement: "Don’t wait. Do it. You won’t look back." And if Wood Wizards is part of your journey? Even better. From the moment Cheryl stepped into this Hampton home, she could see the potential. The location was everything they had been searching for - close to family, walkable to the essentials, and ideal for the next chapter. But while the location was perfect, the floor plan was far from it. “It was the wrong way around,” Cheryl recalls. Fortunately, vision is something this duo has in spades. Cheryl knew, right from that very first walk-through, exactly how it would come together. The layout would need flipping. The design would need uplifting. And the warmth she envisioned would radiate from the very heart of the home: the kitchen.

Every design decision in this home traces back to one simple starting point: a door profile. For Cheryl, the design always began with cabinetry. The moment she stepped into the Wood Wizards showroom and saw the new Polytec Malabar profile, the rest of the kitchen began to take shape. Its clean lines and subtle 1970s character gave a quiet nod to the original era of the home while offering the flexibility to build a more contemporary palette around it. The house itself had been built in the 70s, and while the renovation brought it firmly into the present, there was a conscious effort to preserve a sense of that original character - not through replication, but through texture, tone and balance.

The final result is a kitchen that feels confident, timeless and completely in tune with the rest of the home - while quietly playful. The palette is calm but never flat, rich but never heavy. It sets the tone that is both relaxed and refined, a space where every choice is intentional and every detail feels like part of a bigger picture.

This is the home of Cheryl and Tony, founders of Wood Wizards, who after decades shaping thousands of Melbourne kitchens, finally created one just for themselves. Not for a client. Not for a brief. But for the two of them.

And who better to bring that vision to life than their son, Jordan - who, alongside his wife Megan, now leads the next generation of Wood Wizards.

There’s something undeniably poetic about this renovation story. It’s not just a beautiful kitchen. Not just a thoughtfully transformed home. It’s a full-circle moment… one that weaves together past and present, family and future, legacy and new beginnings.

In their own words:

“We couldn’t be prouder of Megan and Jordan, not just for continuing the business, but for taking it to the next level. Since we retired, it’s been incredible to watch them evolve Wood Wizards into the success story it is today. They’ve taken it from hand drawings and fax machines to the latest technology and processes - all while staying true to what has always mattered most: good old-fashioned customer service.

Now, as clients rather than owners, we get to experience firsthand what so many others have… genuine care, a passion for great design, and a love of property, renovating, and kitchens that runs deep in our family. Most of all, we’re proud of the positive impact they continue to make in people’s lives, including our own.”
