After all these years, this gate is still my favourite. This beautiful wrought iron gate has affectionately become known as the 'Chook gate'. It has taken on various forms and sizes, from short and wide, to tall and narrow. Garden gate and even as driveway gates. Unpainted and painted. I love its organic forms. What do you think?

'Eleanor' Gate Available NOW.
Made to fit a 3240mm gap. Hinged RHS when looking at front.
Gate frame is 3100mm, allowance of 90mm for hinges, allowance of 50mm for latch. $1500 + Hinges and latch $200.

This gate was modified with an extra vertical bar in the centre of the panels. It has started to develop a rusty patina or it can be blasted and powdercoated in any standard Colourbond colour for an extra $450. Metallic, pearlescent or textured finishes, POA.

Graeme did a wonderful job on these simple, yet elegant wrought iron gates. Graeme trained as a coppersmith. His old skills are pretty handy when it comes to forging scrolls as a blacksmith.

These beautiful wrought iron gates were made in 2022, but I only just found the images our customer sent me as a thank you. I designed them to be sympathetic to some other ironwork on her home, and thought a touch of 'Edna Walling' was needed to be sympathetic with the style of the house. The ironwork on the top of the gates is influenced by some gates Edna designed back in the 1930's.

What you can't see here are the little details, like the steel flowers at the centre of each X in the bottom panel. Ironwork doesn't have to be over the top to be elegant and stylish.

It's been a long while since I've done a blog post. I went down memory lane with a brief history of Australian heritage mesh gates.

It made me feel a little sad that the smaller gauge chain mesh is so hard to get. We'd love to use it in our gates, but it has become cost prohibitive. Sadly there's not enough demand for the smaller gauge to warrant the chain mesh companies setting up their machines for small runs. It's also not feasible for them to keep stock on hand for the occasional person who might want some. That's the way of supply & demand. C'est la vie!

Not all gate installations are straightforward. This lovely client is interstate in NSW and was getting new brick pillars built. He had the additional complication of his gate pillars having a protruding cap, which we needed to factor in. A few emails were exchanged to get accurate measurements and details.

Unlike timber posts, the hinges for masonry posts are not adjustable, so a degree of precision is required for the gates to hang straight.

I was so pleased to see the photos of this pair of Victorian gates in my inbox this morning and to see how well they fit. I'm blessed to have a great team here at Farmweld.

SPOT THE DIFFERENCE! One image is from our website, the other is off a competitors website. Breach of copyright? Absolutely! Even with the photoshopping, its still recognisably our photo and not 'authentic'. Times are tough economically for everyone, but especially for micro and small businesses. So it's really disappointing to see this sort of behaviour from another Australian business. 😕

DIAMOND GATES in Bushland (grey with a slightly green undertone) which would fit 4m gaps between posts. 1.2m tall. Seconds: Paintwork is slightly scratched but can be touched up.
