Tasmanian Oak finished with Polycure 2 Pac protection. This is the hardest wearing finish on the market. Nothing else comes close to it for durability.

This look is pretty much what we did on every job for years and years. But, eventually, the lower sheen finishes got a bit better to work with and they became more popular.

Nowadays, we are lucky to do one high gloss floor a year.

When we do get to do one it's a bit of a treat, and it's always brilliant to go back and take a few photos of the finished results.

I'm still at a loss as to why more people don't go for it?. It looks amazing done right, like when Lisa and I do them, and it holds up to anything a busy family can throw at it, for years and years.

Good old 2pac - get around it.

Lisa and I just spent the past week sharpening our sanding skills on this rough as guts Tasmanian Oak floor in Cranbourne North.

This poor floor had copped a floggin'. It had been wee'd on. It had been s**t on. It had never been cleaned. The builder came in and replaced big sections of it due to it being too far gone.

With the repairs done we came in and sanded it, hard. It needed it.

I went straight across the boards using 24 grit paper on the big sanding machine. Lisa used the same 24 grit on her edging machine. That got it cleaned up and reasonably flat, ready for the superfine sanding to commence.

With the boards now looking beautiful we proceeded to roll on our protective coatings, a Matt Finish from Handley Industries The finish is stunning.

Of particular note, as you scroll through the album, is the excellent attention to detail shown in each and every corner. This is Lisa's area of expertise. Her edges and corners are second to none. I love her work, it still blows me away just how good it is.

The first coat going down is one of every floor sanders favorite moments.

The hard sanding is done. The repairs are done. All the serious work completed.

Now, we get to enjoy our efforts and admire the grain and color tone of each and every board.

Then we do it all again, in someone else's home.

From the minute I walked into this home I loved it. There's warmth, style and grace at every turn. All that was required was the Tasmanian Oak boards needed sanding and finishing, to tie everything together.

An interesting point is that most of the boards throughout are over 4 metres long, which is something you don't find today. Some rooms don't even have any joins, just full length boards from end to end. I love this.

MERANTI - not a timber we see a lot of, which is a shame because it sands up like a dream, and the Handley Industries Lo-Sheen polyurethane brings out the grain and colours perfectly, protecting it for donkey's years.

This was a wonderful and very difficult job Lisa and I took on last summer. Because of difficult logistics we had to perform the work over the Christmas / New Year break.
The job was the Community Hall in Upper Beaconsfield.

The floor was a mess, featuring numerous layers of different floor finishes...that required a lot of heavy sanding to get down to the raw timber. Being able to uncover such old Tasmanian Oak made all the effort worth it.

Lisa and I were feeling kinda' blessed to be given the opportunity to restore such an old floor, bringing it back to its original glory.

It's tough work, but we love it.
