The weather is warming up and your grass is starting to grow again. You have managed your lawn through a cold winter and it is almost time to undertake your spring lawn care routine.

Spring is a great time to start planting summer veggies. You could fill your vegetable patch with different variety of tomatoes, beans, capsicums, chillies, eggplant, cucumbers, beetroot, carrots, lettuce, zucchini and herbs.

Veggie patches can be created in the garden, or in raised planter boxes. Pallet timber also makes a great planter box structure, so you can choose the length & height that works for you.

Did you know that rosemary bushes make a great hedging option?

Rosemary is an aromatic herb that is also an attractive bush or hedge. Rosemary can grow up to a height of 1.5-1.8m, but can be trimmed to any height to form a thick hedge of grey-green foliage.

Rosemary makes an excellent hedge because itโ€™s virtually a maintenance-free plant except for some regular trimming. After youโ€™ve planted your rosemary in the ground, do some regular tip pruning to create a nice bushy shape.

Rosemary is a drought-tolerant plant that grows well in a dry climate & in alkaline soil, requiring little watering or care.

You can also use the leaves as a herb in your cooking. Rosemary like a warm, sunny spot in a well-drained soil. It can also tolerate poor or alkaline soil.

Trimming your hedges at this time will encourage bushier growth & promote healthy development throughout the growing season.

Pruning helps to remove any dead, damaged, or diseased branches, which can promote healthy growth and prevent the spread of disease.

By taking care of your hedge in early spring, you can help prevent pest problems later in the season. When your hedge is healthy & strong, it is less likely to be attacked by pests which are damaging your plants.

Invest in soil that is nutrient-rich & well-drained. You can achieve the right blend by mixing 3 inches of good quality garden soil into the top 6 to 8 inches of existing soil.

It's important to select plants that match your growing conditions by putting sun-loving plants into a sunny spot, choosing heat-tolerant plants in warm climates & giving ground covering vines like pumpkins and melons ample room or a trellis to climb.
