Sydney Opera House

we celebrate the birthday of Peter Hall, the design architect who completed the Sydney Opera House as part of the consortium Hall, Todd & Littlemore.
Hall was offered the position in 1966, after Utzon left the project. Hall accepted the monumental task after personally speaking with Utzon and established that he would not be returning.
When the Opera House opened in 1973, all interior spaces had been fitted out under Hall’s direction, with the Concert Hall considered one of his greatest spaces.
The glass walls of the building, devised by Hall and Arup engineers, were internationally recognised at the time as an extraordinary design and engineering achievement.

Liz Watson is part of the applied creativity team at State Library of Queensland, one of the founding partner institutions of the Asia Pacific Architecture Festival. The applied creativity team is responsible for the delivery of State Library’s public access Fabrication Lab and public programming in crafts, art and design.
Liz’s personal passion is working with and connecting people and programs through design.
Georgia Birks is an associate editor at Architecture Media, a graduate of architecture and a proud descendant of the Birpai, Dunghutti and Kamilaroi people. Prior to her role as associate editor, Georgia practised architecture in Brisbane, assisting the delivery of a range of projects across Queensland, New South Wales and South Australia.
Georgia is passionate about art, architecture and design. She has written a number of reviews, curated industry conferences, participated as a guest university critic and lecturer, and has been a guest speaker on podcasts and panels across Australia. Georgia has held the role of co-curator of the festival since 2019.
