We're delighted that The Eaves, West Village has received a Commendation in the Brisbane Region , The Australian Institute of Architects.

Beyond its role as a retail/commercial building, The Eaves functions as a civic and community connector, drawing people into the heart of the precinct. It's the last piece in the vibrant jigsaw puzzle that is West Village, West End.

Congratulations to our client Sekisui House Australia. Your vision of enabling to take its place alongside the precinct's heritage buildings is to be applauded.

This year, we were in great company - a truly outstanding year for in Brisbane. Congrats to our fellow commended practices Richard Kirk Architect and nettletontribe.

Thank you to our fantastic practice and collaborators team (tagged below). This commendation is a shared achievement.

We're looking forward to the in June!

‘Blue Sky Dreaming’ was the theme for the Australian Pavilion we designed for . The Pavilion hosted its final visitors last week as  came to a close. Conveying meaning through form, the Pavilion used a cumulus cloud made from aluminium blades as a metaphor for national and shared identity.

Says Liam Proberts: “We wanted to capture the Australian qualities of openness and invitation. Cumulus clouds are seen everywhere in our country and are visible in skies around the world." Beneath the Pavilion's cloud, a central, open space for gathering, performance, dining and rest proved hugely popular, welcoming well over a million visitors and realising our design intent.

Thank you to everyone who made a huge success.

EXPO 2020 | Several members of our team were thrilled to have the opportunity to visit  recently. The highlight was experiencing our ‘Blue Sky Dreaming’ Australia Pavilion, designed for  Expo 2020 Australia. We also paid a visit to Wahat Al Karama, a beautiful project we designed with artist . Trade and Investment Queensland (TIQ) paired with us as joint hosts of the 'Future Cities' event at the Pavilion, where speakers included the Hon Cameron Dick, Queensland Treasurer and Minister for Trade and Investment. We thank the Expo 2020 Australia,  and TIQ teams for their support on the ground during the event and across our stay in Dubai. Get there if you can - Expo is counting down its last week!

The Eaves is a commercial / retail development that creates a civic hub for Brisbane’s West Village community. Our bespoke architectural screen in clay defines the edges of a generous, public green space and makes a material connection to the nearby Peters Ice Cream Factory heritage buildings. As a unifying element, it will become a recognisable marker in the built fabric of the West End.

CELEBRATING 30 YEARS ^ 2020. Brisbane 1 is strongly influenced by its siting on a triangular block. The design was informed by the imagined process of erosion resulting in three sculptured forms. Corners and street edges are celebrated through the subtle manipulation of the floor plate, giving a crystalline sensibility and gentle sense of movement to the tower form.

CELEBRATING 30 YEARS ^ 2019. Walan reimagines the subtropical, whole-floor apartment tower while celebrating Brisbane’s vernacular traditions. Discreet contemporary elements draw parallels to the historic Queenslander, its verandas, hallways, and ornate envelope. Louvred screens are employed to frame views, shade rooms, and draw breezes.

CELEBRATING 30 YEARS ^ 2019. The Minka Twins were an exercise in designing spatially generous, sub-tropical, family homes on neighbouring 400m2 sites. Acknowledging the limitations of small inner-suburban sites, the design adopts a single-room-width planning strategy, delivering abundant natural light, breezes, and thermal comfort at an affordable budget.

CELEBRATING 30 YEARS ^ 2019. NORTH comprises seven, whole-floor apartments, each designed to engender a sense of belonging to the Burleigh Heads community. The character of the built form is inspired by the rock formations of the nearby headland to imbue, in the skirting spandrel panels, a sense of geometric abstraction and strong visual identity.
