ALOE // Brisbane’s warm climate makes it an ideal place to grow a wide range of aloes. From compact species perfect for pots to large, architectural varieties that become a feature in the landscape, aloes are tough, drought-tolerant plants that reward growers with striking foliage and spectacular winter flowers.
Most aloes thrive in full sun, require excellent drainage, and need very little water once established. Their colourful flower spikes are also a valuable source of nectar for birds and pollinators during the cooler months.

TWINKLE // Twinkle Orchids are loved for their clusters of fragrant flowers and easy-care nature. Follow these simple care tips to keep them healthy and flowering:

• Light: Provide bright, indirect light. Gentle morning sun is beneficial, but avoid harsh afternoon sunlight.
• Water: Water thoroughly when the potting mix is nearly dry. Ensure excess water drains away, as orchids do not like wet roots.
• Humidity: Moderate humidity and good air circulation help support healthy growth and flowering.
• Fertiliser: Apply a balanced orchid fertiliser every 2–4 weeks during active growth. Reduce feeding during cooler months.
• Potting Mix: Use a quality orchid bark mix that provides excellent drainage and airflow around the roots.

GARLIC VINE // We are excited to tell you about the arrival of this gorgeous climber, one of Robin McLay’s favourites as seen by those who attended the McLay’s Garden Tour in March of this year.

Manoa alliaceum, common name ‘Garlic Vine’ is a beautiful flowering climber that thrives in Brisbane’s subtropical climate. Producing masses of lavender-purple trumpet flowers through spring and often again in autumn, it creates a stunning display as the blooms fade through softer shades of lilac and white.

Ideal for pergolas, arches, fences and trellises, Garlic Vine grows best in a sunny position with well-drained soil. Once established, it is relatively low maintenance and drought tolerant, making it a reliable choice for adding colour and softness to Brisbane gardens.
