Last chance to see West End: Street to Sky

We're doing at artist talk and afternoon tea at 3pm today and after that the West End: Street to Sky, Once were Burrowers and All Creatures paintings come down.

Tomorrow from 9am we will have a one day only super sale of paintings from our stockroom, featuring the popular Habitats, Disappearing Skylines and Enormous Vastness series.

Congratulations Felicity, who won the lucky door prize at the opening night of West End:Street to Sky.

This painting is 'Far North Queensland' and is from my 2022 'Disappearing Skylines' series.

Four other paintings from this series will be part of our super sale of 24 paintings from our stockroom.

West End:Street to Sky continues at Vacant Assembly every day this week.

On Saturday at 3pm we will do an artist talk. This will be your last chance to see the y exhibition before it comes down. We'll be talking about the meaning behind our work, the processes we use as well as answering any questions you may have. Join us for the talk followed by afternoon tea.

On Sunday we will have a super sale of works from previous exhibitions – a great chance to get yourself an absolute bargain.

We want to thank everyone who has come along so far to make the exhibition a success.

This painting is 'Quolls May Be Spotted' from my new 'All Creatures' mini series, which celebrates some of the endangered and extinct animals of Tasmania. In these works I've experimented with ink and watercolour on rice paper, then mounted these on canvases painted with acrylics so that the under-painting showed through.

This painting is one of Paul's from his Towering series, which shows the tower cranes and apartment towers that are transforming West End.
All of the paintings in this series include a woman in a blue dress with a bucket. Sometimes she's front and centre, other times she's in the distance. Can you see her in this one? And can you guess what she's up to?

This painting is from my Once Were Burrowers series, which concerns the drastic decline and extinction of Australia’s burrowing marsupials, largely because of habitat loss and predation by foxes and cats.
Once there were so many small native animals playing their important role across the continent, improving the land with their burrows trapping water and leaf matter. The burrowers in these paintings are ghosts of those long gone, scurrying about a vast arid landscape.
The Once Were Burrowers watercolour and charcoal paintings will form part of my West End: Street to Sky exhibition from 13– 23 November at Vacant Assembly, 266 Montague Rd, West End, Brisbane. This painting is Bent Books, and is part of my latest exhibition, West End: Street to Sky. It will be a joint exhibition with Paul, inspired by the inner city suburb we've lived in and loved for decades. I'm also exhibiting new paintings in my Once Were Burrowers series as well as my new All Creatures series.
