CSSQ has just wrapped up another show. Not sure if it’s me getting old or this year was a bit crispier than other years! 🥶🤧❄️🥶

The cost of lettuce, increase in home loan rates and international borders reopening to holiday makers may have contributed to this years numbers on our first day being significantly lower than normal. Lower compared to our own standards but certainly not low for a plant show. There was still just over 800 people through on the first day and maybe just near 450 today which is still a wonderful turnout. Volunteers and customers all expressed a more pleasant experience as there wasn’t as much people to have to manoeuvre around. But I still prefer and love the chaos 😜!

An acknowledgment to our ex-President of the society, RUTH HIGGINS who only gave up the job this year for her 52yrs of community service to these plant shows. And a big congratulations to our new committee for another brilliant show.

A big thanks to all our customers who are so passionate about these plants that they have come out in our lovely 12’C weather to attend and buy plants.

🍌 🥝🍍MONSTERA DELICIOSA FRUIT🍍🥝🍌

Most of you would know or have seen the Monstera Deliciosa plant. But did you know it’s fruit is edible? It’s actually one of the best tasting fruits there is.. surprised?!! Just like it’s name, the fruit is delicious as it’s a perfect combo of banana, kiwi and pineapple. Everyone who has been lucky enough to try one all agree.

We have a lot of these plants growing around our block and that are of mature age so they’ve been producing a great amount of fruit this year. I think the massive rain period we just had also contributed to the amount and size of the fruit as I’ve never seen it this big. It’s takes months from flowering to fruit that’s ready to be picked.

The fruit is picked green, as soon as I see the size has gotten to its maximum potential (usually judging by the scales). The fruit wall contains these scale or scrabble like pieces which fall off when the fruit ripens. It’s the only time you can eat the fruit inside because you can’t get to the fruit if the skin is still hard. Forcing your way and eating the fruit before it’s ready will leave you with an unpleasant feeling and taste in your mouth. Similar to the kiwi, the black things that looks like seeds will give your tongue a slight tingling feeling.

Most number one recommended fruit to try if you ever have the chance or if you do have this plant, look out for its fruit and don’t throw it away!

What my orchid collection used to look like.. I’m still
an orchid girl at heart.

Enter the world of orchids and you’ll never cease to be amazed at the vast beauty and diversity there is.

Nothing will test your patience like growing orchids though.. but the reward at the end is always worth it.

Hard not to love orchids.. what’s blooming right now.

I swear I didn’t do anything.. 😢🤦🏻‍♀️ Bye Miss Rainbow West. (and also $120, she didn’t last a week 😤🥺).

We’ve had a lot of rain lately and even when protected and being undercover, some plants are just so sensitive to humidity that they just cark it.

Humidity and air flow is what I think is the most trickiest to control. I should’ve turned my fans on.

oh well.. as usual, just start over again 😂

Beautiful display of oncidiums growing on our poinciana tree. The canopy of the poinciana is the perfect place to grow these as it’s nature’s own shade house. We have a few of these around the block.. they just look after themselves.

Oncidiums are the perfect beginner orchid for anyone wanting to try.

Common name: Dancing Lady orchid.
