Originating over 150 years ago, the Gluggle Jug is a novelty British tableware accessory with a rich history. Available in a range of beautiful colours, the Gluggle Jug, shaped in the style of a koi fish with a mouth-shaped pourer, gets its name from the 'glugging' sound it makes when poured at three-quarters full – it's the result of an air lock created in the fishtail which bubbles out.

While the Gluggle Jug was first created in the 1870s by potters Thomas Forester & Son in Stoke-on-Trent, the jugs are commonly associated with Dartmouth Pottery, who produced a fish-shaped water jug called the 'Gurgling Fish Jugs'. Given the royal seal of approval, a special pair of jugs were made in 1958 for the Queen and Prince Philip on their visit to Britannia
