I am happy to say that after an intense period of study, I am now employed full time teaching design and technologies to both junior and secondary school students. It is a great way to share the design and making skills that I've developed with a great group of interesting and enthusiastic students.

Another positive; I am also taking on design jobs again. This is an oversized cheese board for Sandgate based cheesemaker, The Black Ratto, embellished with a laser engraved logo.

Jester Studios has mostly stopped trading while I complete my masters of teaching. That hasn’t stopped the creativity and problem solving though. This is a key tag to remind a certain person of all the things that they need to grab on the way out of the house each morning.

The best bit is the items can be sung to the tune of ‘Head shoulders knees and toes’.

Today the World Science Festival Brisbane launched ‘Curiocity’. I was tasked with bringing one of the art installations to life. It is called TIMMEE.22 and is an interactive experience where the fate of the world is in your hands. It is located near the cafe in the Whale Mall outside the Queensland Museum.

The epic creative and making process has finally come to an end. This piece is all ready for Curiocity, part of the World Science Festival Brisbane but sadly due to the recent flood event in Brisbane, the Curiocity part of the festival has been postponed to a yet to be announced date.

Things are moving ahead quickly on this project and I’m really happy with how everything is going. The concept was proposed by a fantastic bunch of students from Isis high school in Childers and I’ve been tasked with developing and creating their initial vision.

This retro arcade game cabinet is part of a much larger installation for an upcoming festival. By running the old cabinet designs through a user centered design process, a few minor but significant changes have been made The redesigned base allows for easier access for a broader range of users than the standard cabinets. The top lifts off the base meaning that you don’t need a ute or a big van to transport it. There is also the option to use the top section by itself as a countertop unit. No CNC cutters were used. Hand tools all the way on this one. All it needs now is a paint. The next step it to write some code and to build some electronic circuits.

After spending most of this year working on other people’s design projects I’m happy to be able to make some time over the holiday season to work on a few things of my own. This wall clock is made with an upcycled movement and hands with a new face, laser cut from teak plywood, and finished with lanolin for a deep sheen.
