Hi people 👋,

Here is a little project I did about 2 weeks ago. It is exactly what my client wanted and is very happy with it.

The timber beams had a coat of bitkote (liquid tar) applied for extra waterproofing before I pre painted the beams with 2 coats of good quality exterior paint. Any cuts or drill holes were coated as well so it should withstand the elements for years to come. I even applied black sikaflex to all the joints to keep the rain out of the timber and to make it look a little better.
I used the expensive option to fasten the shadecloth to the structure rather than the old school nail plates which rip and tear the shadecloth in windy conditions. Another advantage of the new fastening system is that it is fairly easy to restretch the shadecloth as it sags over time.
The side wall which is white proved a little tricky to attatch my beam to as it was a hollow wall. The studs ran horizontal and not vertical so I had nothing solid to fix my beam to. I ended up putting extra fasteners in as well as a supporting angle along the length of the beam to add extra strength and load bearing capabilities.
I even got the "v" shaped cutout in my beam perfect to go over the existing wall flashing.

I was happy with the job, my client was happy with the job, that is a win for me.
